Job summary

Mantel is an Australian-owned IT Professional Services consultancy delivering AI-enabled cloud solutions. As a Senior Site Reliability Engineer, you will own reliability for our managed services across Azure, AWS, and GCP, automating repetitive tasks and shaping incident response with AI.

You will collaborate with infrastructure experts to evolve detection, governance, and secure, scalable cloud platforms for diverse clients, while participating in a flexible hybrid work model.

Qualifications

• Deep experience building, operating, and scaling enterprise Azure environments.
• Strong experience with Azure Policy and Enterprise Policy as Code preferred.
• Understanding of Private Networking in Azure and automated deployments.
• Proven ability to design and maintain automated deployment pipelines (GitHub/GitLab).
• Hands-on provisioning of core compute workloads in Windows Server.
• Scripting and orchestration to build resilient, scalable platforms.
• Proactive client mindset; identify bottlenecks and propose practical solutions.
• Foundational knowledge of Microsoft Entra ID and Intune.
• Customer-first attitude; capable of working in small or large teams.
• AZ-305/AZ-400 focus; multi-cloud exposure (AWS/GCP) is a plus.
• Awareness of AI advancements and AI-driven tooling for reliability.
• Experience with Azure Virtual Desktop, Microsoft 365, AD/Exchange is a plus.

About the role

As a Senior Site Reliability Engineer, you own reliability for our managed services customers. That means keeping their systems up and secure across AWS, Azure, and GCP while automating the work that shouldn't require a human. You'll push back on bad architecture, shape how we use AI to respond faster, and contribute to the patterns and platforms Mantel builds for customers who face similar problems repeatedly.

• Own reliability for managed services customers across Azure, AWS and GCP. Customer environments vary widely in maturity, stack, and compliance constraints.
• Participate in a structured on-call rotation (typically every second week, alternating between primary and secondary support). We actively protect your time: pages only trigger when error budgets breach or core services fail, never for warnings, and automated runbooks handle initial triage so you aren't waking up to noise.
• Work from defined runbooks for most incidents and diagnostics. Your job is automating the repetitive parts, surfacing problems before they page, and making incident response faster.
• Collaborate with our infrastructure experts to evolve how we detect and resolve incidents, leveraging proprietary, next-generation AI and automation platforms.
• Provide constructive architectural governance, challenging anti-patterns and guiding clients toward secure, reliable, and maintainable cloud solutions.
• Help expand our managed services solutions reliably as we mature cloud, software, and database
• patterns. You’ll contribute to the core platforms and patterns Mantel offers repeatedly to customers.
• Shape how we use AI and automation to accelerate reliability work across our customer base. You’ll help articulate how our AI driven solutions solve specific client problems.
• Build relationships with key technologists on the customer side. You’re not just fixing their incidents, you’re helping them understand what’s possible and what we can do together.
• Contribute to our internal optimisation and productivity backlog. You identify where toil exists and drive improvements that benefit all our customers.

What you’ll need to be successful:

• Azure Platform Engineering: Deep experience building, operating, and scaling enterprise Azure environments delivered via Infrastructure as Code.
• Azure Governance: Strong experience in Azure Policy with EPAC (Enterprise Policy as Code) preferred.
• Networking: A deep understanding of Private Networking in Azure.
• CI/CD & Version Control: Experience designing and maintaining automated deployment pipelines using commercial Git workflows (e.g., GitHub, GitLab) to ensure reliable delivery.
• Workload Management: Hands‑on expertise provisioning and managing core compute workloads, particularly within Windows Server.
• Scripting & Orchestration: Fluency with scripting and orchestration technologies to build resilient, performant platform architectures.
• Client Engagement: A proactive client mindset - you’ll leave no stone unturned, identify platform bottlenecks early, and propose practical, high‑impact solutions that align with the clients needs.
• Identity & Endpoint: A foundational understanding of modern cloud identity and endpoint tools like Microsoft Entra ID and Intune.
• Teamwork & Mindset: A customer first attitude, delivering service with a smile and the ability to work in both small and large teams.
• Cloud Architecture (Azure Focus): Deep expertise managing production workloads in Azure (AZ-305 and AZ-400 preferred). Practical exposure to AWS or GCP is a strong advantage, with full support provided for multi‑cloud cross‑skilling.
• AI & Emerging Tech: A functional understanding of modern AI advancements, with the curiosity and capability to leverage AI‑driven tooling to enhance operational efficiency and reliability.
• Additional Experience: Experience with Azure Virtual Desktop, Microsoft 365, Active Directory, Exchange, or on‑premises infrastructure will be highly regarded, though not necessary.
