Job summary

Canberra Girls Grammar School (CGGS) invites applications for a part-time, fixed-term School Counsellor/Psychologist in the Senior School. The role supports student wellbeing, provides counselling, and collaborates with staff and families to aid learning.

The position is to cover parental leave, commencing in 2027, with a focus on professional learning and a values-driven culture. The successful candidate will have a postgraduate qualification in Psychology or related field, be AHPR*A

Qualifications

• Postgraduate qualification in Psychology or other relevant field (counselling, social work or related).
• General registration (or eligibility) with AHPRA or relevant bodies.
• Demonstrated experience providing psychological or counselling services to children and adolescents.
• Minimum five years of clinical experience (desirable).

Responsibilities

• Undertake psychosocial assessments.
• Provide timely and effective counselling for students (self-referred or referred by parents or staff).
• Provide evidence-based counselling to enhance social, emotional, and academic wellbeing.
• Recommend options for students needing learning support.
• Develop, organise, and implement management plans for students.
• Assess and take appropriate action as necessary.
• Liaise with external agencies for referrals as needed.
• Respond to critical incidents involving students.
• Offer support and consultation to parents and facilitate parent meetings.
• Provide advice and recommendations for development and welfare of students to staff.

Skills

Postgraduate qualification in Psych*/c

AHPRA registration

Experience with children/adolescents

Clinical experience (5+ years)
