Job summary

Evoenergy is seeking a Principal Automation System Engineer to lead SCADA and substation automation initiatives in the ACT. You will guide solution development, design, installation, commissioning and maintenance of critical automation across networks, ensuring safety, reliability and regulatory compliance.

You will coach a high-performing team, drive strategic automation projects, and ensure architectures align with standards while engaging stakeholders across the business.

Qualifications

• Degree in Engineering, Telecommunications, IT, or a related discipline, with eligibility for professional engineering membership and ACT registration.
• Extensive experience in SCADA and substation automation systems, including design, implementation, commissioning, and integration.
• Strong knowledge of SCADA communications, IEC 61850, DNP3, Modbus, cyber security, networking, databases, and HMI design.
• Demonstrated capability in project management, strategic planning, and electrical network protection systems.
• You take active steps to ensure the safety of your colleagues and our community, championing a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a high-performing SCADA and Automation team, fostering a strong safety culture and continuous improvement.
• Define and deliver the SCADA and Automation program of work, ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to schedule.
• Develop, implement, and maintain SCADA and automation strategies, architectures in line with the relevant standards, policies, and procedures.
• Oversee the design, commissioning, operation, maintenance, and performance of SCADA and IEC 61850 substation automation systems.
• Ensure system reliability, cyber security, compliance, and stakeholder engagement while providing expert technical leadership and advice.
• Other duties within the employee's skill, competence and training.
