Job summary

BHP Prominent Hill is seeking a Superintendent Safety & Hygiene to lead safety and occupational hygiene across Australia’s leading underground operation. Based at Prominent Hill, the role reports to the Manager Health, Safety and Security and operates on a 4/3 5/2 FIFO roster, guiding a high‑performing team to strengthen risk management and ensure safe, productive operations.

Qualifications

• Experience in mining, heavy industry or similar complex operations.
• Strong expertise in safety, occupational hygiene, risk management.
• Proven ability to lead, coach and develop high-performing teams.
• Well-developed stakeholder engagement and influencing skills.
• Strong commercial and operational awareness with translating priorities into practical outcomes.
• Analytical and problem-solving capability using data and insights for decisions.
• Proactive approach to continuous improvement and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

• Lead development and delivery of site safety and occupational hygiene strategies.
• Provide leadership, governance and technical expertise to improve safety performance.
• Lead and develop a team of professionals and foster a culture of high performance.
• Collaborate with operational stakeholders to identify improvements and implement practical solutions.
• Strengthen risk management practices and support risk-informed decision-making.
• Govern occupational hygiene monitoring programs to verify control effectiveness.
• Analyze performance trends and risk information to support planning and decisions.
• Collaborate with Asset, regional and global teams to share learnings and improve service delivery.
• Champion the implementation of the Copper SA IMS and continuous improvement processes.
