Job summary

Abergeldie is seeking a Senior Safety Coordinator to lead health and safety across Western Sydney construction sites within the West Region Delivery Team. You will support practical safety leadership, ensure WHS compliance, and foster a proactive safety culture on site.

You will coach teams, conduct investigations, and drive continuous improvement while traveling regularly between active sites and partnering with project teams to deliver critical water infrastructure projects.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience in a Health & Safety Advisor, Safety Advisor or Senior Safety Coordinator role in civil construction/water infrastructure.
• A sound understanding of WHS legislation and practical application on projects.
• Experience supporting multiple work fronts and prioritising across sites.
• Strong incident investigation skills, ICAM and/or 5 Whys.
• Ability to engage, coach and influence project teams and subcontractors.
• Proactive hazard identification, risk management and continuous improvement.
• MINimum Certificate IV WHS and a current Construction White Card.
• Sydney Water project experience is highly regarded.
• Willingness to travel regularly between project sites.

Responsibilities

About the West Region Delivery Team

The West Region Delivery Team consortium comprises Abergeldie Complex Infrastructure and Fulton Hogan for construction, Programmed for maintenance and facility management, and Stantec and Atlas for design and engineering.

The West Region Delivery Team is integrated with Sydney Water under a collaborative contracting framework, Partnering for Success (P4S). The West Region Delivery Team has been engaged to deliver design, construction, maintenance and facility management services for a ten (10) year program across Sydney Water's wastewater, water and recycled water systems.

About the Opportunity

We're looking for a Senior Safety Coordinator to join the West Region Delivery Team and support the safe delivery of critical water infrastructure projects across Western Sydney.

This is a hands-on, site-based role supporting multiple active construction sites. Partnering closely with project teams, you'll provide practical safety leadership, ensure compliance with legislative and client requirements, and help foster a proactive safety culture across our projects.

Day to day, you'll:

• Provide practical health and safety support to project teams across multiple construction sites.
• Conduct site inspections, audits and workplace observations to identify hazards and verify controls are effective.
• Support risk assessments, SWMS reviews and project planning activities.
• Coach and mentor supervisors, engineers and frontline crews on safe work practices.
• Lead and support incident investigations, including ICAM and 5 Whys methodologies, and drive corrective actions to completion.
• Monitor compliance with WHS legislation, client requirements and company procedures.
• Participate in toolbox talks, safety meetings and pre-starts to promote a positive safety culture.
• Track safety performance, identify trends and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
• Build strong relationships with operational teams, subcontractors and client representatives.
• Assist project teams in achieving safety objectives while supporting the successful delivery of works.

This is a role that requires regular travel between project sites and a strong on-site presence.

What You'll Bring to the Team

You are an experienced safety professional who thrives in a construction environment and enjoys working closely with project teams to achieve safe outcomes.

You’ll also bring:

• Demonstrated experience in a Health & Safety Advisor, Safety Advisor or Senior Safety Coordinator role supporting civil construction and/or water infrastructure projects.
• A sound understanding of WHS legislation and the ability to apply legislative requirements in a practical project environment.
• Experience supporting multiple work fronts and balancing priorities across several active sites.
• Strong incident investigation skills, including experience using ICAM and/or 5 Whys methodologies.
• The confidence to engage, coach and influence project teams, supervisors and subcontractors at all levels.
• A proactive approach to hazard identification, risk management and continuous improvement.
• Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety (minimum) and a current Construction White Card.
• Sydney Water project experience will be highly regarded.
• The ability and willingness to travel regularly between project sites.
