Responsibilities

  • Lead and support the implementation of the project's Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) systems, standards and procedures across site operations.
  • Provide expert safety advice to project leadership, construction teams and subcontractors to ensure compliance with legislation and project requirements.
  • Conduct regular site inspections, audits and assurance activities, identifying hazards, trends and opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Support the development and review of SWMS, risk assessments, permits, emergency plans and other critical safety documentation.
  • Monitor high-risk construction activities and provide proactive guidance to ensure appropriate controls are implemented and maintained.
  • Investigate incidents, near misses and safety events, identifying root causes and driving corrective and preventive actions.
  • Engage with supervisors, engineers, subcontractors and frontline workers to promote a strong safety culture and positive safety behaviours.
  • Lead safety initiatives, toolbox talks, pre-starts and targeted campaigns to improve safety awareness and workforce engagement.
  • Track safety performance, analyse trends and provide accurate reporting and recommendations to project management.
  • Mentor and support Safety Advisors and other project personnel, contributing to a consistent and proactive approach to safety across the project.

Job description

The consortium of John Holland, Bouygues Construction, Arcadis Australia, Jacobs and Ventia has been selected to build South Australia's biggest-ever road infrastructure project. In partnership with the South Australian Government, this consortium forms the Torrens to Darlington (T2D) Alliance.

The Torrens to Darlington (T2D) Alliance, will deliver the final 10.5km section of the North-South Corridor, forming a continuous 78 km, non-stop, traffic light-free motorway, and contributing to a long-lasting legacy for the community and people of Adelaide.

The T2D Project involves constructing two separate tunnels - the Southern Tunnels and the Northern Tunnels connected by an open motorway, with a combined total distance of 10.5km, open to traffic in 2031. The T2D project comprises the tunnels, surface works including road and bridge construction in addition to services buildings and complex mechanical and electrical infrastructure. The T2D Alliance is committed to providing opportunities for local people, Aboriginal workers, apprentices, trainees and job seekers who are long-term unemployed and offers people an incredible opportunity to be a part of an iconic project

The Role

Reporting to the Safety Manager, the Senior Safety Advisor will support the Work Health and Safety functions, implementing and maintaining effective safety practices, systems, and procedures. You will play a key role in delivering, supporting, and monitoring Safety and Health Management requirements, strategies, and initiatives across the project.

Working closely with Safety Managers and the broader project team, you will provide guidance, direction, and support to foster and lead a strong safety culture.

Key Responsibilities

About You
  • Demonstrated experience as a Senior Safety Advisor or similar role within a major construction, infrastructure or civil project environment.
  • Relevant qualifications in Work Health and Safety, Occupational Health and Safety or a related discipline.
  • Strong knowledge of WHS legislation, construction safety requirements and industry best practice.
  • Proven experience working across complex, high-risk construction environments with multiple interfaces and contractors.
  • Strong understanding of risk management, incident investigation and safety assurance processes.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • A proactive and practical approach to safety, with the confidence to challenge unsafe practices and drive positive outcomes.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities within a fast-paced project environment.
  • Experience developing, reviewing and implementing safety documentation, systems and improvement initiatives.
  • A collaborative leadership style with a genuine commitment to building a positive and proactive safety culture.
