Job summary

SMEC is seeking a Senior Drafter to join the Roads & Highways team in Newcastle or Sydney. You will produce high-quality drafting and design documentation, aligned with SMEC and client standards, supporting efficient project delivery.

You will work with engineers and multidisciplinary teams in a collaborative, digitally enabled environment, applying strong drafting capability to deliver accurate, buildable outcomes.

Qualifications

• 8–12 years of drafting experience in roads/transport projects.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D and/or MicroStation.
• Experience delivering detailed design and construction documentation.
• Understanding of drafting standards, QA processes and model coordination.
• Strong communication and collaborative approach.

Responsibilities

• Produce detailed 2D drawings and 3D models for roads and highways projects.
• Deliver detailed design and construction documentation per project requirements.
• Apply SMEC drafting standards, QA processes and client specifications.
• Check drawings and documentation for quality and accuracy.
• Coordinate with engineers and multidisciplinary teams to support integrated design delivery.
• Manage project data within common data environments such as ProjectWise.
