Job summary

SMEC is seeking a Senior Drafter to join the Roads & Highways team in Newcastle or Sydney, supporting the delivery of complex transport infrastructure projects across Australia. In this role, you will take responsibility for producing high-quality drafting and design documentation, ensuring alignment with SMEC and client standards while contributing to efficient, coordinated project delivery.

Qualifications

• 8–12 years of drafting experience in roads, highways or transport infrastructure.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D and/or MicroStation.
• Experience delivering detailed design and construction documentation.

Responsibilities

• Produce detailed 2D drawings and 3D models for roads and highways infrastructure projects.
• Deliver detailed design and construction-level documentation.
• Apply SMEC drafting standards, QA processes and client specifications.
• Undertake checking and review of drawings for quality and accuracy.
• Manage drawing and model outputs across project timelines.
• Coordinate with engineers, designers and multidisciplinary teams.
• Maintain project data in ProjectWise or similar systems.
• Provide drafting guidance to junior team members.
• Contribute to continuous improvement in digital delivery and workflows.
