Job summary

The University of Queensland is seeking a Senior Research Assistant in Cell Biology and Immunology to join the Institute for Molecular Bioscience at St Lucia Campus. The role combines hands-on laboratory research with responsibility for the smooth day-to-day operation of the lab to enable high-quality experimental outcomes.

Qualifications

• Honours degree in molecular biology, microbiology, cell biology or related discipline.
• At least 1 year of relevant lab research experience; able to perform routine procedures independently.
• Demonstrated experience in cell culture and molecular cloning.
• Experience with mammalian or avian cell culture; virus culture and confocal microscopy considered favourably.
• Experience applying specialist lab techniques and maintaining accurate records.
• Strong organisational skills and ability to manage competing lab priorities.
• Ability to collaborate effectively and take responsibility for day-to-day lab activities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate lab activities including mammalian/avian cell culture, cloning, confocal microscopy, RNA processing and imaging.
• Support design and delivery of research studies; troubleshoot equipment and contribute to outputs.
• Manage day-to-day lab operations: ordering, stock, equipment, reagents and databases.
• Maintain high-quality records, data and SOPs; support safety practices and group committees.
