Job summary

Queensland Police Service – Townsville QLD seeks a lawyer to provide professional prosecution services and legal advice to members before the Magistrates, Children’s and Coroner’s Courts. The role includes supervising subordinate staff and coordinating with Police and legal communities to achieve policing outcomes.

The Townsville Police Prosecution Corps is a large establishment with over thirty members, supporting management and administration for efficient operations.

Qualifications

• Provide a prosecution service for the area of responsibility.
• Monitor briefs of evidence to ensure high quality for summary trials and committal proceedings.
• Liaise with Queensland Police Service, the legal profession, government agencies and the community to build effective relationships.

Responsibilities

• Lead in development and provision of quality legal research, submissions, argument and advice.
• Manage resources in accordance with Service policy to achieve efficient operations.
• Establish and model high standards of performance and conduct in daily work activities.
• Coordinate activities for Specialist Courts and diversionary initiatives as directed by the Superintendent.

You will provide professional prosecution services, including the provision of legal advice to members of the Service on matters before the Magistrates, Children’s and Coroner’s Courts. This position requires the supervision of subordinate staff.

Townsville Police Prosecution Corps is a large sized establishment, with over thirty members of combined teams of both sworn and civilian prosecutors, supported by administration officers.

The core capability requirements for this role are:

• Provide a prosecution service for the area of responsibility.
• Monitor the provision of briefs of evidence by police for use in summary trials and for committal proceedings to ensure the highest quality of briefs is maintained.
• Liaise, consult and negotiate with members of the Queensland Police Service, the legal profession, government agencies and the community towards the establishment of effective working relationships and achievement of desired policing outcomes
• Take a lead role in the development and provision of quality legal research, argument, submissions, opinion and advice.
• Manage resources in accordance with Service policy to achieve efficient operations for the area of responsibility.
• Establish and model maintain high standards of performance and conduct in daily work activities.
• May include coordination activities for Specialist Courts and diversionary initiatives a directed by the Superintendent.
