Job summary

Queensland Police Service in Cairns is seeking a prosecutor to provide professional prosecution services and legal advice in matters before the Magistrates, Children's and Coroners Courts. Responsibilities

• Provide a prosecution service for the area of responsibility.
• Represent the Service and members in proceedings before Magistrates, Children's and Coroners Courts.
• Provide legal advice within the area of responsibility on court processes.
• Monitor the provision of briefs of evidence by police to ensure high quality briefs.
• Liaise with Police, legal professionals, government agencies and the community to achieve policing outcomes.
• Identify environmental factors affecting the work area and contribute to legal research, argument, submissions, opinions and advice.
• Set and maintain high standards of performance and conduct in daily work activities.

Job description

You will provide professional prosecution services, including provision of legal advice to members of the Service on matters before the Magistrates, Childrens and Coroners Courts. Cairns Police Prosecution Corps has combined teams of both sworn and civilian prosecutors, supported by administration staff. The position offers a broad level of experience across all Magistrates Court criminal matters, with circuit courts providing an added dimension to the role.

• Provide a prosecution service for the area of responsibility.
• Represent the Service and members in matters relating to the functions of the Service and in proceedings before, and applications to the Magistrates, Children's and Coroners Courts.
• Provide legal advice within the area of responsibility on matters pertaining to court processes
• Monitor the provision of briefs of evidence by police to ensure the highest quality of briefs is maintained
• Liaise, consult and negotiate with members of the Queensland Police Service, the legal profession, government agencies and the community towards the establishment of effective working relationships and achievement of desired policing outcomes.
• Identify environmental factors affecting the work area and actively contribute to the development and provision of legal research, argument, submissions, opinion and advice.
• Set and maintain high standards of performance and conduct in daily work activities.
