Job summary

Queensland Government seeks a legal practitioner for prosecution and advisory duties in Cairns Regional. The role involves representing the Service in Magistrates and Coroners Courts, providing court-process guidance, and ensuring quality briefs from police.

You will liaise with police, legal professionals, and government bodies to foster effective relationships and policing outcomes, while maintaining high professional standards and timely submissions.

Qualifications

• Mandatory admission to practise as a legal practitioner in Queensland.
• Applications must remain current for 12 months.

Responsibilities

• Provide a prosecution service for the area of responsibility.
• Represent the Service and members in proceedings before, and applications to, the Magistrates, Children's and Coroners Courts.
• Provide legal advice within the area of responsibility on matters pertaining to court processes.
• Monitor the provision of briefs of evidence by police to ensure high quality briefs.
• Liaise, consult and negotiate with the Queensland Police Service, the legal profession, government agencies and the community toward effective relationships and policing outcomes.
• Identify environmental factors affecting the work area and contribute to legal research, argument, submissions, opinion and advice.
• Set and maintain high standards of performance and conduct in daily work activities.
