Job summary

This leading construction group in Australia seeks a Project Engineer/Senior Project Engineer to lead the engineering function from concept through handover on major projects. You will own technical planning, coordination and delivery with a clear pathway into project management.

You will mentor engineers, manage design coordination, shop drawings, cost reporting and subcontractor management while liaising with clients and consultants to ensure quality and timely delivery on multi-discipline

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or related).
• Experience as Project Engineer/Senior Project Engineer with a head contractor on major projects.
• Strong commercial acumen with cost reporting, variations and subcontractor management.
• Confident coordinating consultants, subcontractors and site teams.
• Experience with design coordination, document control and RFI management.
• A natural mentor who lifts the standard of the team around them.
• Organised, accountable and clear in your communication.

Responsibilities

• Lead engineering coordination across design, methodology and performance specs.
• Manage shop drawings, calculations, samples and technical submissions.
• Forecast costs, variations, cost-to-complete and monthly reporting.
• Administer subcontractor agreements, claims, variations and invoicing.
• Coordinate bid/tendering and engage subcontractors and suppliers.
• Program, sequence and resolve delays.
• QA/QC, ITPs, WHS docs, site inspections and audits.
• Represent the business in client/consultant meetings.
• Oversee commissioning, handover and closeout documentation.
• Mentor Project Engineers and Graduates.

The Role

Reporting to the Project Manager, you'll lead the engineering function on a project from concept through to handover. This is a genuine leadership role with full accountability for technical planning, coordination and delivery in line with the Project Execution Plan, plus a clear path into project management.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Leading engineering coordination across design, methodology and performance specifications
• Managing shop drawings, calculations, samples and technical submissions for client and consultant approval
• Cost management - forecasts, variations, cost-to-complete and monthly financial reporting
• Contract administration - subcontractor agreements, claims, variations and invoice reconciliation
• Bid coordination and procurement, including subcontractor and supplier engagement
• Programming, sequencing and delay resolution
• QA/QC, ITPs, WHS documentation, site inspections and audits
• Representing the business in client and consultant meetings
• Commissioning, closeout and handover documentation
• Mentoring Project Engineers and Graduate Engineers

About You

• Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or related)
• Solid experience as a Project Engineer or Senior Project Engineer with a head contractor on major projects - exposure across more than one sector is a plus
• Strong commercial acumen - comfortable with cost reporting, variations and subcontractor management
• Confident coordinating consultants, subcontractors and site teams and resolving technical issues quickly
• Experienced with design coordination, document control and RFI management
• A natural mentor who lifts the standard of the team around them
• Organised, accountable and clear in your communication
