Job summary

Logan City Council is seeking a Senior Project Engineer in the Transport Delivery branch to lead end-to-end procurement, contract administration and construction management of capital works projects for road infrastructure. Salary from: Stream A Level 6.1 ($108,354.51K) to Level 7.1 ($118,433.60K) + Superannuation.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Project Engineer to join the Transport Delivery branch within the Council.

Join a high-performing team delivering critical road infrastructure projects for the community. As a Senior Project Engineer, you will lead the end-to-end procurement, contract administration, and construction management of capital works projects. This role requires deep technical expertise in road engineering, strong leadership in contract supervision, and a proactive approach to stakeholder engagement and project performance.

Position responsibilities include:

Project Management and Contract Administration

• Oversee project analysis and preparation of contract and procurement documentation.
• Procure infrastructure delivery projects in accordance with approved procurement strategies.
• Manage and supervise allocated road and drainage capital works contracts as Project Manager.
• Administer construction contracts in accordance with contract conditions.
• Provide technical and engineering leadership to resolve complex project delivery matters.
• Monitor and report on project performance including safety, programme, cost, quality, environmental and stakeholder outcomes.
• Implement corrective actions to maintain project objectives and delivery standards.
• Lead regular project management meetings with contractors to review performance, risks and required actions.
• Provide specialist technical, commercial and administrative advice relating to construction management, contract administration and policy matters.

Supervision and Coordination

• Supervise and manage Site Engineers and construction team members.
• Provide technical guidance and expert advice to officers across the branch
• Allocate and utilise staff resources effectively to achieve section and project objectives.
• Provide clear direction, expectations and capability development for team members.
• Mentor and coach staff to achieve high-quality outcomes and meet Council and community expectations.
• Maintain effective communication and coordination with internal and external stakeholders throughout project delivery.
• Coordinate responses to customer enquiries relating to roads and drainage infrastructure matters.
• Support innovation, performance improvement and the efficient delivery of branch outcomes.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of branch goals, policies, priorities and strategic objectives.

Key indicators for success:

• Degree in Civil Engineering and RPEQ registration, or ability to obtain within 12 months.
• Strong knowledge of civil road and drainage construction and rehabilitation.
• Experience in procuring and managing civil infrastructure construction contracts.
• Demonstrated experience acting as Superintendent or Superintendent's Representative.
• Experience maintaining quality assurance systems for construction projects.
• Sound knowledge of Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) requirements.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Self-motivated with a commitment to continuous improvement and professional development. Collaborative team player with the ability to build positive working relationships.
• Current C Class Queensland Driver Licence.
• General Construction Industry Safety Induction (White Card), or ability to obtain within 21 days of commencement.
• Ability to successfully complete pre-employment screening, including:
• National Police History Check
• Verification of work rights
• Satisfactory reference checks

Progression to Stream A Level 7 is subject to:

• 12 months satisfactory service at level 6.3 or demonstrated ability and experience to competently operate in the role under limited direction; and
• Demonstrated ability to act as a technical expert in construction management, contract administration and procurement of civil infrastructure works.
• Registration as a Professional Engineer Queensland (RPEQ) or ability to obtain registration within a 12-month period.
