Opteon is seeking a senior software engineer to lead Australia/NZ platform initiatives from Geelong or Melbourne with flexible arrangements. You will own outcomes end to end, shape roadmaps through evidence and discovery, and mentor peers in product operating model practices.

You will build robust, scalable solutions across legacy and modern platforms, release safely via CI/CD, and drive AI-enabled development while collaborating across teams and stakeholders.

Qualifications

• 6+ years delivering software at scale in fast-paced environments.
• Tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
• Australian citizenship and NV1 security clearance eligibility.
• Strong C# skills across .NET Framework and .NET Core / .NET 8+ with ASP.NET.
• Hands-on with agentic AI coding assistants and AI concepts.
• Experience with AWS (RDS, IAM, S3, ECS, Beanstalks).
• Experience with MSSQL and PostgreSQL.
• Experience building RESTful APIs.
• Familiar with CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions or Jenkins).
• Familiar with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or similar).
• Experience in a product operating model organisation.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.

The role

This is a senior individual contributor role within the ANZ Engineering team, contributing to our Australia / New Zealand platforms. You’ll lead complex initiatives with real autonomy, champion rapid, evidence-based learning, and coach other Product Engineers to work the same way. You won’t just consume a prioritised backlog — what you learn will shape the roadmap.

What you’ll do

Own outcomes end to end. Lead delivery on complex product problems with clear accountability for measurable business results.

Build robust solutions. Design and implement across our legacy and modern platforms, and release safely through CI/CD with the right testing, monitoring and operational follow-through.

Drive discovery. Use user and problem research, prototypes and technical spikes to make clear go/no-go calls before scaling up.

Embed product thinking. Bring hypothesis-driven delivery and outcome metrics into team rituals and stakeholder conversations.

Coach and share. Mentor Product Engineers and peers on discovery, product operating model behaviours and technical craft; share reusable assets and patterns across teams.

Challenge the feature factory. Call it out constructively and propose outcome-based alternatives.

Lead with AI. Model productive use of agentic coding tools (e.g. Cursor, Claude Code), experiment with new technologies and agentic approaches, and help set standards for safe, effective AI-assisted development.

What you’ll bring

6+ years delivering software professionally at scale, ideally in a fast-paced or evolving environment

Tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field

Australian citizenship and eligibility to obtain and maintain an NV1 security clearance

Strong C# skills across both .NET Framework and .NET Core / .NET 8+, plus working knowledge of ASP.NET

Hands‑on, everyday proficiency with agentic AI coding assistants, and a solid grasp of agentic AI concepts and systematic solutions

Hands‑on experience with AWS (RDS, IAM, S3, ECS, Beanstalks, etc.)

Experience designing and querying relational databases (MSSQL, Postgres)

Experience building and consuming RESTful APIs

Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions or Jenkins)

Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or similar)

Experience in a product operating model organisation, or similar

Excellent written and verbal communication skills
