Senior Product Designer

Be the designer the team can hand almost anything to, and trust to do it well and quickly. As our Senior Product Designer, you won’t own one corner of the product. You’ll pick up work from right across the platform (right now that’s Rewards, our innovation squads and product‑led growth) and take each piece end to end, from understanding the problem to checking it worked after launch.

Here’s the honest bit: briefs don’t always arrive in the right shape. Some start as an open problem waiting to be defined. Others arrive with a strong hypothesis already attached. And as the business grows, more teams across pay.com.au bring ideas to Product and Design, and the best ones are often time sensitive. The problem worth owning is finding the real problem early, sharpening the brief with Product, and getting good work from brief to customers fast, with AI taking care of the repetitive and time‑consuming parts of the process. Everyone in the team helps shape how we use AI, rather than just using it.

Design at pay.com.au is a small in‑house team that owns the end‑to‑end experience of Australia’s business payments and rewards platform: how businesses pay, how they get paid, and how they earn PayRewards Points doing both.

Responsibilities
  • Pick up and deliver design work from across the platform, from understanding the problem through shipped UI, QA and post‑launch checks.
  • Move between different areas of the product with ease, getting up to speed on new customers, constraints and numbers quickly.
  • Use AI throughout your process (research synthesis, exploring directions, prototyping, documentation) and help us find and automate the parts of the job that do not need a designer.
  • Work with Product Managers and Tech Leads to sharpen a brief before you start and push back when the brief is not right.
  • Collaborate with our graphic and digital designers so the product and the way we market it feel like one brand.
  • Keep the design system healthy: reuse what exists, evolve it rather than working around it, and make new patterns reusable by the rest of the team.
  • Hold the quality bar at pace (accessibility, consistency, never misleading the user) and help lift the team’s rituals: critique, documentation, evidence.
About You
  • Strong experience in product design, with a portfolio of shipped end‑to‑end work on complex web applications, not concepts.
  • Range and pace: you have shipped across more than one product area, domain or customer type, you enjoy switching between them, and you turn work around in days rather than weeks, knowing where to spend effort and where good enough is good enough.
  • Excellent craft across interaction, visual and accessibility, with the judgement to know when to reuse a pattern and when a new one is warranted. Highly proficient in Figma and quick to make an idea testable.
  • Fluent in research: you pick the method to suit the question, run it yourself, and turn what you find into direction rather than a report.
  • Comfortable with Product: you can sharpen a brief, disagree well, and arrive with the better idea.
  • AI runs through every part of how you work (research and synthesis, exploring directions, writing and documentation, and prototyping in code with tools like Claude Code, Cursor or Figma Make), with the judgement to tell good output from plausible‑looking output. Bonus if you have automated parts of your own workflow.
  • Nice to have: designing AI‑assisted experiences (deciding what to automate and what stays in the user’s hands and making a system’s confidence and limits clear so we never mislead someone about their money); payments, B2B or fintech experience; design system contribution; comfort reading data and experiment results and making a call from them; and enough HTML/CSS to work well with engineers.

We know not everyone will meet every requirement, and that's okay. If you’re excited about the role and believe you can make an impact, we’re keen to hear from you.

A few more things...

Successful candidates joining the team will need to complete a National Police Record Check.

Candidates who require adjustments at any stage of the recruitment process are encouraged to let us know. We’re happy to support you.

We’re committed to an inclusive and diverse recruitment process where everyone feels respected and supported. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds, identities and abilities and ensure fair, equitable consideration at every stage.
