Qualifications

• Proven track record of cost savings or improved terms through negotiations.
• Solid understanding of NSW home building/construction industry materials, trades, supply chains, and standard contracts.
• Formal procurement qualifications or equivalent industry experience.

Responsibilities

• Personally lead and close negotiations with suppliers, subcontractors, and trade partners to secure competitive pricing and supply continuity.
• Review, renegotiate, and formalise expired supplier agreements across materials, trades, and services.
• Develop and implement a robust procurement strategy aligned with construction programs and growth targets.
• Partner with internal teams (sales, design, pre-construction, construction) to ensure seamless program delivery.
• Build and maintain deep supplier relationships specific to NSW residential construction.
• Monitor market pricing, supply risks, and industry trends while ensuring regulatory and contractual compliance.
• Mentor and develop the current Procurement Officer, delegating tasks to support their growth.
• Deliver clear performance metrics, cost-savings tracking, and supplier KPIs to senior leadership.

Job description

Sekisui House is seeking a proactive, Senior Procurement Officer to lead supplier negotiations and drive our procurement strategy. This is a hands‑on, individually accountable role where you will personally lead and close critical supplier, subcontractor, and trade partner negotiations to secure competitive pricing, terms, and supply reliability—not just oversee the process.
Reporting to senior leadership, you will apply best‑practice procurement while working collaboratively with our sales, design, pre‑construction, and construction teams to align procurement outcomes with our active delivery program. You will also take a lead role in mentoring and developing our Procurement Officer, building long‑term continuity within the function.

Key Responsibilities

• Negotiation & Commercials: Personally lead and close negotiations with suppliers, subcontractors, and trade partners to secure highly competitive pricing, terms, and supply continuity.
• Agreement Management: Review, renegotiate, and formalise expired supplier agreements across materials, trades, and services.
• Strategy & Best Practice: Develop and implement a robust procurement strategy aligned with construction programs and business growth targets, applying rigorous tendering, supplier evaluation, contract, and risk management practices.
• Cross‑Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with internal teams, including sales, design, pre‑construction, and construction, to ensure seamless program delivery.
• Relationship Management: Build and maintain deep, collaborative supplier relationships specific to the NSW residential construction sector.
• Market Intelligence & Compliance: Monitor market pricing, supply chain risks, and NSW building industry trends while ensuring strict compliance with all relevant regulations, standards, and contractual obligations.
• Leadership: Manage, mentor, and develop the current Procurement Officer, effectively delegating administrative and transactional tasks to foster their professional growth.
• Reporting: Deliver clear performance metrics, cost‑savings tracking, and supplier KPIs to the senior leadership team.

Skills and Experience

• Commercial Negotiation: A proven track record of strong commercial negotiation with demonstrated cost savings or significantly improved terms secured.
• Industry Knowledge: Solid understanding of the NSW home building/construction industry, including residential materials, trades, supply chains, and standard contract structures.
• Procurement Best Practice: Demonstrated expertise in tendering, supplier evaluation, and contract management, ideally backed by formal procurement qualifications or equivalent industry experience.
• Leadership & Mentoring: Prior experience successfully managing, supervising, or mentoring procurement staff.
• Stakeholder Management: Exceptional interpersonal skills, with the ability to negotiate directly with external suppliers and confidently report to internal senior executives.
• Financial Acumen: Excellent commercial and financial literacy with proficiency in computer applications and estimating software.

Desirable:

• Specific experience procuring for volume or residential home builders.
• An established, active supplier and trade network within the NSW building industry.
• Tertiary qualification in Procurement, Supply Chain, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
