Job summary

InfraBuild Wire Mill in Geelong is seeking a senior operations engineer to oversee safety, quality and environmental performance on-site. You will drive ISO9001 quality, lead audits, manage budgets and technical initiatives to improve efficiency and innovation.

Reporting to the Site Operations Manager, you will guide a small team and develop capability in a complex manufacturing setting. With extensive Australian manufacturing heritage, InfraBuild offers stability, hands-on engineering

Qualifications

• Extensive experience in process engineering and continuous improvement.
• Strong Lean/Six Sigma capabilities and quality management experience.
• Proven ability to lead safety, environmental and operational initiatives.

Reporting to the Site Operations Manager and based at our Geelong Wire Mill, you will oversee and co-ordinate all technical, quality assurance and environmental matters associated with the manufacture of galvanized wire and wire products onsite.
Geelong Wire Mill has been proudly manufacturing in Australia for more than 70 years. InfraBuild Wire is the only Australian wire manufacturer using Australian steel to produce Australian-made wire products. Our operation is diverse, with high-speed wire drawing machines producing an extensive range of medium and low carbon wire, a continuous-operation galvanising plant, and specialised rural fencing machinery.
With a mix of process engineering challenges across a complex manufacturing environment, Geelong Wire Mill offers an opportunity for an engineer who enjoys getting hands‑on, solving problems and making a real impact. It's an operation that will keep you challenged, engaged and motivated.

What You Will Be Doing

• Lead Safety & Risk Management: Drive a proactive safety culture toward Goal Zero, ensuring safe systems of work, risk control and team accountability.
• Manage Environmental Compliance: Oversee ISO14001 systems, regulatory reporting and continuous improvement in environmental performance.
• Ensure Quality Excellence: Maintain ISO9001 standards, lead audits and drive product quality and customer satisfaction outcomes.
• Deliver Operational Performance: Manage budgets, costs, and technical initiatives to improve efficiency, performance and innovation.
• Lead & Develop People: Manage a small team and build capability through recruitment, performance management and ongoing development.

About The Employer

About The Candidate

• Extensive experience in process engineering, continuous improvement and process control, with strong Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma capabilities (Green Belt or above).
• Proven success working with quality management systems, including ISO 9001 compliance and auditing.
• A data-driven approach to problem solving, with the ability to identify opportunities and deliver measurable operational improvements.
• Strong leadership and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence outcomes and drive performance across a variety of teams.
• Experience leading and embedding operational and cultural change initiatives within complex manufacturing environments.
• A Bachelor's degree in Engineering, ideally Mechanical or Chemical Engineering, with Electrical Engineering backgrounds also welcomed.
• Established experience working in Australian manufacturing environments and confidence navigating local standards, compliance requirements and industry best practice.
