Job summary

AusNet is seeking an experienced Primary Engineer to influence Victoria's transmission network. You will provide technical guidance across major substation projects and collaborate with stakeholders to deliver high-quality engineering solutions for safe and reliable network growth.

Key responsibilities include supporting project estimates and schedules, reviewing brownfield designs, and developing constructible, cost-effective business cases while mentoring team members.

Qualifications

• Detailed technical knowledge of electricity networks engineering and substations.
• Ability to simplify complex engineering analysis for non-engineers.
• Understanding of project lifecycles and design/construction knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support across AusNet’s Transmission network projects.
• Apply primary engineering knowledge to reach efficient solutions on complex designs.
• Develop concept scopes and specifications for design and construction.
• Review brownfield substation designs for staging, operability, maintainability and safety in design.
• Support estimation and schedule development activities.
• Contribute to cost-effective, constructible business cases and risk registers.
• Develop and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders.
• Lead, coach and mentor team members.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Primary Engineer to influence the future of Victoria's transmission network. You'll provide technical guidance across major substation projects, collaborating with a diverse range of stakeholders to deliver high‑quality engineering solutions that support the safe, reliable, and efficient growth of the network.

This role will deliver real outcomes, including but not limited to:

• Provide technical support into Customer and Company initiated projects across AusNet’s Transmission network
• Apply primary technical engineering knowledge to ensure efficient solutions can be reached on complex design projects
• Develop concept scopes and specifications for design and construction. Review and assess brownfield electricity substation designs, providing technical input into staging, constructability, operability, maintainability and safety in design
• Provide support to the estimation and schedule development activities.
• Contribute to the development of cost effective and constructible business cases, including:
• Supporting the development of project schedules and risk registers
• Providing engineering input into commercial offers on customer offers
• Identify opportunities to develop new or improved standards and to ensure the timely delivery of efficient solutions of complex technical engineering designs and standards.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with key internal stakeholders.
• Lead, coach and mentor personnel within the team and share knowledge and experience

You don't need to check every box; however, we are looking for a good combination of:

• Detailed technical knowledge and extensive experience in electricity networks engineering
• Simplify complex engineering analysis for non-engineers (summarising key decision-making during delivery of detailed design)
• Detailed understanding of project lifecycles and application of engineering principals with extensive design and construction knowledge covering, performance, functionality, operation, maintenance and risks
• Extensive experience working in electricity substations engineering, project delivery and/or design role
• Strong understanding of regulatory environment that AusNet operates within
• Demonstrated ability to develop, coach, mentor, empower and support colleagues and team members to achieve common goals
• Proven project team leadership skills
• Proven capability in development of concepts and/or delivery of designs
• Proven ability to build and grow relationships and partnerships across divisions within Ausnet as well as with external suppliers, customers and regulatory bodies
