Job summary

AusNet Services Ltd. is seeking a Senior Engineer, Secondary to deliver critical transmission substation projects from concept to delivery in Melbourne.

You will apply protection and control knowledge to ensure safe, reliable and cost-effective designs while influencing engineering decisions. Based in Southbank with a flexible hybrid working arrangement, this permanent full-time role sits within the Design Management team in Transmission.

Qualifications

  • Degree qualification in Electrical Engineering.
  • Extensive experience in substations engineering, project delivery and/or design.
  • In-depth knowledge of transmission secondary systems engineering focusing on protection and control.
  • Understanding of project lifecycles with design and construction knowledge.
  • Ability to simplify complex engineering analysis for non-engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Project engineering in a Transmission Design Management team.
  • Provide technical support into transmission projects across AusNet's network.
  • Apply protection and control engineering knowledge to complex designs.
  • Develop scopes and specifications for design and construction.
  • Review brownfield and greenfield substation designs with emphasis on safety, operability and maintainability.
  • Contribute to project schedules and risk registers; provide input into offers.

As a Senior Engineer, Secondary, you'll play a pivotal role in delivering critical transmission substation projects across AusNet's network. Leveraging your expertise in protection and control systems, you'll provide technical expertise, influence key engineering decisions and help deliver safe, reliable, and cost-effective solutions that support the energy transition.

Working closely with internal stakeholders and our Design and Construction Delivery Partners, you'll drive engineering excellence from concept through to delivery, ensuring projects meet the highest standards of quality, performance, and innovation.

This is a permanent full-time opportunity based in Southbank, Melbourne, with a flexible hybrid working arrangement, and forms part of our Design Management team within Transmission.


Whatyou’llbe doing:

  • Project engineering in a Transmission Design Management team
  • Provide technical support into Customer and Company initiated projects across AusNet's Transmission network
  • Apply protection and control technical engineering knowledge to ensure efficient solutions can be reached on complex design projects
  • Develop scopes and specifications for design and construction. Review and assess brownfield and greenfield electricity substation designs, providing technical input into staging, constructability, operability, maintainability and safety in design covering:
  • Protection scheme and control system designs
  • Protection relay settings and configuration
  • Contribute to the development of scopes and estimates for Transmission substation projects ensuring cost effective and constructible business cases can be delivered, including:
  • Supporting the development of project schedules and risk registers
  • Providing engineering input into commercial offers on customer offers
  • Identify opportunities to develop new or improved standards and to ensure the timely delivery of efficient solutions of complex technical engineering designs and standards, taking ownership of process improvement initiatives and development of new methods where necessary

What we're looking for:

You don't need to tick every box, but you'll bring a strong blend of technical expertise, industry experience, and a passion for delivering critical infrastructure and be ready to that that next step in your career.

  • Degree qualification in Electrical Engineering
  • Extensive experience working in electricity substations engineering, project delivery and/or design role
  • Detailed technical knowledge and extensive experience in transmission secondary systems engineering focusing on protection and control
  • Detailed understanding of project lifecycles and application of engineering principals with extensive design and construction knowledge covering performance, functionality, operation, maintenance and risks
  • Simplify complex engineering analysis for non-engineers (eg summarising key decision-making during delivery of detailed design)
  • Proven ability to build and grow relationships and partnerships across divisions within Ausnet as well as with external suppliers, customers and regulatory bodies
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, coach, mentor, empower and support colleagues and team members to achieve common goals
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in Victoria (RPEV), or eligibility to obtain registration, is highly regarded
  • Current driver's licence required (travel to sites and offices as required)
