Job summary

Design & Build Recruitment in Sydney is seeking a Senior Power Systems Engineer to focus on core studies underpinning HV substation design. You will work closely with Primary, Secondary & Protection and LV teams, feeding studies into design and equipment selection.

You will contribute across the full project lifecycle from detailed design through construction and commissioning, with a strong in-house EPC engineering context and a pathway to grow inhouse Power Systems capability.

Qualifications

• 5+ years’ electrical engineering experience.
• Strong Power Systems studies experience supporting detailed HV substation design.
• Hands-on DIgSILENT PowerFactory experience.
• Strong understanding of how power system studies influence substation design and equipment selection.

Responsibilities

• Deliver the core power systems studies that underpin HV substation design.
• Perform load flow and short circuit studies.
• Complete insulation coordination and TRV studies.
• Perform arc flash, harmonic and power quality assessments.
• Assess transformer loading and system balancing.
• Develop detailed power system models using DIgSILENT PowerFactory.
• Interpret study results and provide recommendations that directly inform substation design and equipment selection.
• Prepare technical reports, calculations and study findings.
• Provide engineering support through design, construction and commissioning.

Position: Senior Power Systems Engineer
Location: Sydney
Salary: $160k-$190k base

Join a leading Australian EPC contractor with a strong in-house engineering team delivering major HV substation, transmission and renewable energy projects.

This is a specialist Power Systems role focused on the core studies and reports that underpin the detailed design of HV substations.

Rather than studying how different scenarios impact the wider network, you’ll be working directly alongside Primary, Secondary & Protection and LV Engineering teams, with your studies feeding into the design, equipment selection and delivery of their projects.

What we’re looking for

• Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering
• Engineers Australia membership or eligibility

• Strong understanding of Australian power utility standards and requirements
