Vocus is seeking a Principal Power Engineer to lead the concept, development and implementation of telecommunications power and facilities infrastructure, ensuring reliability and efficiency across the network.

You will provide technical leadership, manage large-scale projects (>$10M), oversee FAT/SAT, mentor junior engineers, and drive the adoption of new technologies and best practices within the telecoms sector.

Qualifications

  • 20+ years post-graduate experience in telecommunications/data centre power systems and facilities engineering.
  • Electrical Engineering degree meeting Engineers Australia accreditation.
  • Extensive AC/DC power systems, gensets, switchboards, renewable & hybrid designs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the concept, development and implementation of power and facilities infrastructure for the telecoms network.
  • Develop designs and budgets; assess risks and drive project plans to meet objectives.
  • Create, review and maintain technical documentation; ensure FAT/SAT and commissioning are executed.
  • Mentor junior engineers and foster knowledge transfer across the team.
  • Drive adoption of new technologies and best practices within the telecommunications industry.
  • Manage vendor sourcing and lifecycle upgrades for power and facilities projects.

As a Principal Power Engineer, you will play a critical role in the successful concept and development and implementation of Vocus's telecommunications power and facilities infrastructure. You will provide expert technical leadership, drive innovation, and ensure the highest levels of reliability and efficiency across the network.

Responsibilities
  • Solution development; working from requirements, through documentation of concept, high level design; detailed design and verification of facilities and power solutions
  • Experience in telecommunications network facilities, HVAC, and AC & DC power system lifecycles including audit existing power and facilities using documentation as well as on site visits to develop lifecycle upgrades approaches
  • Development of relevant designs/specifications and budgets; provide expert input to the development of project concept, project plans, evaluation of risks and budgets, ensuring feasibility and alignment with business objectives
  • Lead the creation, review, and maintenance of all relevant technical documentation. Evaluate existing and emerging power, cooling technologies and modular telecommunications technical facilities, identifying opportunities for operational, cost, and performance improvements
  • Drive the adoption of new technologies and best practices within the telecommunications industry
  • Technical management of new build as well as lifecycle upgrades in facilities and power systems ensuring adherence to engineering standards, project timelines, and budgets. This includes contribution in all phases of the project lifecycle, planning, high-level & detailed design, factory acceptance testing (FAT), site acceptance testing (SAT), construction support, commissioning, quality assurance (QA), and as-builts
  • Preparation for; and management of; vendor solution sourcing activities
  • Mentorship: Mentor and guide junior members of the team, fostering their professional development and knowledge transfer.
Requirements
  • Minimum 20 years of post-graduate experience in the telecommunications/data centre industry in the field AC and DC power systems as well as facilities engineering and relevant standards
  • Tertiary qualifications in Electrical Engineering meeting the accreditation standards of Engineers Australia
  • Wide experience in AC & DC Powers systems; gensets; switchboards; renewable & hybrid power systems and development of highly resilient and economic designs which are designed for operation and change over their lifecycle
  • Demonstrated ability to create technical documentation including presentations; and design artefacts in all stages of a design process including management of internal standards and specifications
  • Extensive experience in scoping, auditing, planning, defining, designing, and verifying performance of large telecommunications AC/DC, renewable power and facilities (>$10M budget) projects
  • Experience in specifying and planning HVAC infrastructure for facilities – ranging from passive through active HVAC designs including split system air-conditioning; free-air cooling and others
  • Vendor Sourcing activities as well as management of vendors from a Commercial, Technical, Operational perspectives
  • Operational experience in support of Power and Facilities which underpin service delivery to customers
  • Experienced working in a multi-disciplinary team environment including optical engineering, IP engineering, procurement, construction services and logistics teams.
