The Why
As a Platform Engineer - Developer Experience, you'll design, build, and evolve shared developer platform capabilities that improve engineering productivity across the organisation. You'll treat our engineers as customers, identifying friction in their day-to-day workflows and creating scalable solutions that make software delivery simpler, faster, and more reliable.
Working closely with feature squads, Tech Leads, Security and Architecture teams, you'll use a platform-as-product mindset to create internal developer experiences that accelerate the delivery of customer value while maintaining the security, resilience, and compliance standards expected in a regulated banking environment.
This is an opportunity for a Software Engineer/Senior Software Engineer who enjoys solving engineering-wide problems, building reusable capabilities, and creating tools and workflows that have impact far beyond a single team.
Key Responsibilities
Build Internal Developer Products
- Design, build and evolve developer platform capabilities that improve productivity, consistency, and developer experience across engineering teams.
- Develop and maintain reusable self-service workflows, tooling, and paved-road solutions that reduce friction and enable teams to deliver with confidence.
- Create opinionated golden paths that encode engineering standards while allowing flexibility where it makes sense.
Improve Software Delivery
- Design and maintain platform services supporting build systems, CI/CD pipelines, deployment workflows, and software delivery practices.
- Identify bottlenecks and inefficiencies across the software development lifecycle and drive improvements that reduce cognitive load for engineers.
- Partner with feature squads to understand workflow challenges and co-design practical solutions that improve delivery outcomes.
Enable Observability and Reliability
- Build platform capabilities that improve visibility into system health, service performance, and developer workflows.
- Develop dashboards, automation, tooling, and runbooks that reduce operational overhead and improve incident response effectiveness.
- Participate in on-call rotations and contribute to incident response activities with a focus on continuous improvement and learning.
Partner Across Engineering
- Work closely with Security, Risk and Compliance stakeholders to embed controls, policy checks, and governance requirements into developer workflows without unnecessarily impacting delivery velocity.
- Influence platform adoption across engineering teams through strong technical leadership, collaboration, education, and support.
- Balance developer needs with platform standards, security requirements, operational resilience, and regulatory obligations.
Your Experience
- Demonstrated experience in Software Engineering, Backend Engineering, Platform Engineering, or Developer Experience Engineering.
- Demonstrated experience building shared capabilities, frameworks, products, or platforms that are consumed by multiple engineering teams.
- Strong software engineering fundamentals with experience building production applications using TypeScript, Node.js and modern frontend frameworks such as React.
- Experience building developer tooling, internal platforms, engineering productivity solutions, or software delivery capabilities.
- Practical experience with modern software delivery practices, CI/CD platforms, cloud-native development, and Infrastructure as Code.
- Experience improving engineering workflows through automation, self-service capabilities, reusable tooling, or platform products.
- Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to work effectively with engineers, technical leaders, and cross-functional partners.
- Experience working in modern product engineering environments where software engineers own development, testing, deployment, and operational outcomes.
