Job summary

Dowsing Group is seeking an experienced Senior Payroll Officer to manage end-to-end payroll for Australia and New Zealand staff from our Maddington base. The role supports awards and enterprise agreements and sits within a growing finance team.

The successful candidate will drive a transformation from Vista to ELMO/Employment Hero, with potential to progress to Payroll Manager and broaden payroll governance across the group.

Qualifications

• At least 7 years’ experience in end-to-end payroll in a medium sized business.
• Confidence in interpreting awards and EAs, and an ability to build effective relationships and problem solve.
• 1 to 2 years’ experience supporting a payroll system implementation and/or deep payroll systems experience with ELMO and/or Employment Hero.
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative, detail-oriented approach.

Responsibilities

• Oversee end-to-end payroll for Australian and New Zealand staff, ensuring accuracy across awards and agreements.
• Support a payroll system implementation and system enhancements, with the aim of a future Payroll Manager role.
• Collaborate with finance and HR to build strong working relationships and resolve payroll issues promptly.

Job description

Dowsing Group is a family-owned civil services business providing concrete hardscapes, slip-form, road profiling, civil works and concrete road grinding services in Australia and New Zealand.

The Dowsing Group of companies employs over 150 staff across several entities in WA, VIC and NSW. It also operates a New Zealand entity which can flex up employment exposure dependent on project demands.

The business continues to grow, and we are seeking an experienced Senior Payroll Officer to join our Finance team based in Maddington.

The Role

This is a key role responsible for the end-to-end payroll of our Australian and to a smaller extent, New Zealand workforce, covering employees across awards, enterprise agreements, and common law arrangements.

The successful candidate will ideally look to grow into the Payroll Manager role in the short to medium term and then take full responsibility for payroll across the group.

Payroll is currently processed through Vista by Viewpoint, with an exciting transformation project underway to transition to ELMO (being Employment Hero Payroll with KeyPay engine).

We are looking for a true payroll professional with strong end-to-end experience, confidence in interpreting awards and enterprise agreements, and the ability to build effective working relationships across the business.

About you

You will bring:

• At least 7 years’ experience in end-to-end payroll in a medium sized business
• Confidence in interpreting awards and EAs, and an ability to build effective relationships and problem solve
• A desire to be a key part of a friendly, high-performing finance team
• 1 to 2 years’ experience supporting a payroll system implementation and/or deep payroll systems experience with ELMO and/or Employment Hero (not essential but highly regarded)
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative, detail-oriented approach
