MDA Consulting Engineers Pty Ltd is seeking a Senior or Intermediate Hydraulic Designer to join our Brisbane CBD or Gold Coast offices. You will own hydraulic design and documentation across the project lifecycle, coordinating with multi-disciplinary teams and liaising with councils for approvals.

The role emphasizes design accuracy, compliance with NCC/AS standards, and delivering high-quality work on time.

An opportunity exists for an experienced Senior or Intermediate Hydraulic Designer to join MDA Consulting Engineers. Based in either our Brisbane CBD or Gold Coast offices, this position offers a great opportunity to join an expanding business.

Role & Responsibilities

In this role, you will take ownership of hydraulic services design and documentation across all stages of the project lifecycle. Working both independently and collaboratively, your responsibilities will include:

Design & Documentation:

Prepare hydraulic design calculations, authority applications, and technical specifications.

Produce accurate layout drawings and schematic diagrams using AutoCAD and Revit.

Design diverse hydraulic systems, including hot/cold water, trade waste, sanitary plumbing, drainage, and gas services.

Project & Site Management:

Attend client briefings, coordination meetings, and site visits to monitor installation progress.

Respond to Requests for Information (RFIs) and review contractor shop drawings.

Undertake site inspections and capacity checks, and deliver clear technical reports.

Coordinate designs with internal multi-disciplinary teams (Electrical, Mechanical, Fire, and ESD).

Liaise directly with local councils and water authorities to secure necessary project approvals.

Establish and maintain strong working relationships with clients, builders, and contractors.

Compliance & Quality Assurance:

Ensure all design packages strictly comply with the National Construction Code (NCC) and Australian Standards.

Deliver high-quality work within agreed project timelines and budgets.

You will have the opportunity to work across a broad mix of sectors, including:

Residential & Commercial: Low-rise units, multi-level high-rise resort developments, retail, and office spaces.

Institutional & Education: Schools, universities, hospitals, and healthcare infrastructure.

Government & Industrial: Local, State, and Federal Government projects, as well as industrial and mining developments.

Key Selection Criteria

Ideally, you will bring a minimum of three (3) years of experience in the consulting engineering field or an allied organisation.

Capability & Qualifications: While a relevant Certificate, Diploma, or QBCC licence is highly regarded, candidates with proven design capability and solid hands-on experience are strongly encouraged to apply.

Software Proficiency: Proficiency in AutoCAD is essential, and experience with modern 3D/BIM software such as Revit is highly advantageous.

Knowledge: Sound understanding of local authority regulations, requirements, building standards, and codes.

Communication: Well-developed interpersonal skills with a strong command of the English language (essential for technical documentation, client liaison, and team collaboration).
