Job summary

SustainRecruit is seeking a Senior Network & Security Engineer for a 6-month contract based in the Sydney CBD. You will lead the secure operation and continuous improvement of enterprise network and security platforms within a small team, owning key platforms end to end while upholding cyber security standards.

The role requires 8+ years in similar roles, expertise with Cisco, Palo Alto, SD-WAN, Infoblox, and F5/NGINX, and experience with AWS networking and network automation.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in senior network and security engineering roles in large enterprises.
• Proven ability to own critical platforms end to end.
• Experience designing and operating AWS networking.
• Experience with network automation.
• Strong understanding of network security, vulnerability management, and compliance.

Responsibilities

• Provide high level support for complex incidents, including incident leadership and remediation.
• Own the enterprise network and security platforms across on‑prem, data centre, cloud (AWS), and branch environments.
• Configure and optimise firewall policies, threat prevention, and traffic inspection.
• Support cloud and hybrid networking, with a strong focus on AWS networking.
• Apply cyber risk management practices (NIST, CISM).
• Mentor junior staff.
• Work after hours when required for critical responses.

Job description

We are looking for a Senior Network & Security Engineer for an initial 6 month contract located in the Sydney CBD. You will join a team of 4 and will be responsible for the secure & reliable operation and continuous improvement a number of enterprise network and security platforms.

This is a senior role that will require you to own critical platforms end to end whilst upholding cyber security standards.

Responsibilities

• Provide high level support for complex incidents, including incident leadership, root cause analysis, and remediation.
• Own the enterprise network and security platforms across on‑prem, data centre, cloud (AWS), and branch environments.
• Configure and optimise firewall policies, threat prevention, and traffic inspection.
• Support cloud and hybrid networking, with a strong focus on AWS networking.
• Apply cyber risk management practices (NIST, CISM)
• Mentor junior members of staff.
• Have the ability to work after hours when required for critical responses.

What we need:

• 8+ years' experience in senior network and security engineering roles within large enterprises - financial services a bonus but not essential.
• Excellent experience with Cisco (Routing, Switching, DC, Wireless), Palo Alto, SD‑WAN, Infoblox, and F5/NGINX.
• Strong experience working on enterprise networks and managing complex environments.
• Proven experience designing and operating AWS networking.
• Experience with network automation.
• Strong understanding of network security, vulnerability management, and compliance.
• Ability to multi-task and find solutions to complex issues.

The role requires 2 days a week in the Sydney CBD office. You must hold a visa with full working rights for this role.
