Job description

Permanent or Contract

Build networks where every microsecond matters.

When reliability, security and latency directly influence trading outcomes, great network engineering makes a measurable difference.

Firesoft People is partnering with a global trading firm to find a Senior Network Engineer who wants technical depth, meaningful ownership and the opportunity to shape mission-critical infrastructure.

You’ll work close to the technology that powers global trading, solving complex engineering challenges and seeing the impact of your decisions.

The opportunity

Joining a collaborative IT Operations team, you’ll design, support and enhance infrastructure spanning global exchanges, colocation facilities and on-premises environments.

The environment brings together enterprise bare-metal hardware, FPGA-accelerated components and low-latency network architectures. You’ll contribute to architecture decisions, own significant projects and help deliver major infrastructure upgrades.

If you enjoy understanding exactly how a network behaves, tracing a problem down to the packet level and building a better solution, there’s plenty here to get stuck into.

What you’ll own
  • Network performance and resilience: Maintain and improve highly available core and WAN networks across routing, switching, multicast and exchange connectivity.
  • Design and troubleshooting: Design and optimise environments using BGP, OSPF, PIM and IGMP, investigating complex issues through packet captures and detailed analysis.
  • Security and recovery: Own firewall policies, implement security controls and strengthen disaster recovery procedures.
  • Infrastructure engineering: Support and tune Red Hat Enterprise Linux across bare-metal hardware and hypervisors.
  • Major upgrades: Lead maintenance windows and infrastructure changes, coordinating with engineering teams, exchanges and colocation providers.
  • Automation and visibility: Improve configuration management, monitoring and operational tooling using Ansible, Zabbix and Python.
  • Continuous improvement: Respond to incidents, uncover root causes and turn those findings into lasting improvements in reliability and performance.
What you’ll bring

You’re an experienced engineer who combines deep technical knowledge with sound judgement. You’re comfortable taking ownership, explaining your design choices and staying composed when time matters.

Your background will include:

  • Typically five or more years working with complex, mission-critical infrastructure.
  • Strong core and WAN network design experience.
  • Deep hands-on knowledge of BGP, OSPF, firewall policies and packet-level troubleshooting.
  • Multicast networking experience, including PIM and IGMP.
  • Experience with colocation and on-premises switching and connectivity.
  • Strong Linux skills, ideally with RHEL in high-performance environments.
  • Experience with infrastructure automation, configuration management and monitoring.
  • Clear communication and a proactive approach to identifying risks and improving systems.
Why make the move?
  • A serious technical challenge: Work on high-performance infrastructure supporting global trading.
  • Real engineering ownership: Influence architecture, make design decisions and take projects through to delivery.
  • Depth and variety: Work across exchange connectivity, low-latency networks, Linux, security and automation.
  • A collaborative engineering team: Work with people who value practical expertise and well-designed solutions.
  • Flexible engagement options: Explore either a permanent or contract opportunity.
