Job summary

NTT DATA, Inc. is seeking a Senior Network Automation & Platform Engineer in Melbourne to drive automation and reliability across network and cloud environments.

You will develop scalable automation solutions, manage IaC and CI/CD pipelines, and collaborate with engineering and operations to enhance platform performance and security. Experience in telecom contexts is valued, with a focus on continuous improvement through automation.

Qualifications

• Strong networking fundamentals and enterprise or service provider experience.
• Proficient in Python and Shell scripting for automation.
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms and hybrid infrastructure.
• Experience with IaC and automation tools (Ansible, Terraform).
• Experience managing CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Azure DevOps).
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
• Exposure to HFC, DOCSIS, broadband tech is a plus.
• Experience in telecom network operations or service provider environments.
• Knowledge of observability/monitoring platforms (Grafana, Splunk, ELK).
• Industry certifications in Networking, Linux, Cloud, Automation or DevOps.

Job description

As a Senior Network Automation & Platform Engineer, you will play a critical role in driving the automation, reliability, and continuous improvement of complex network and platform environments. Working across networking, cloud platforms, Linux infrastructure, and DevOps practices, you will help modernise operational processes, develop scalable automation solutions, and improve platform performance and resilience. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced engineer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, enabling innovation through automation, and influencing the future direction of network and platform engineering capabilities. Experience within HFC networks or telecommunications environments is highly regarded but not essential.

Duties of the Role

• Design, develop and support automation solutions that streamline operational processes, improve deployment efficiency, and reduce manual intervention across network and platform environments.
• Develop and maintain Python, Shell, and Infrastructure-as-Code solutions to automate infrastructure provisioning, configuration management, monitoring, and reporting activities.
• Deploy, manage and support cloud-based and hybrid infrastructure platforms while ensuring security, availability, scalability, and operational excellence.
• Establish and maintain CI/CD pipelines, GitHub governance standards, release management processes, and automated testing frameworks to support modern software delivery practices.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Operations, Security, Architecture, and vendor stakeholders to deliver platform enhancements, resolve technical issues, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
• Provide technical leadership through documentation, standards development, knowledge sharing, and mentoring of team members across automation, networking, and platform technologies.

Skills Required for the Role

• Strong knowledge of networking fundamentals, protocols, troubleshooting methodologies, and operational practices within enterprise or service provider environments.
• Demonstrated experience in Python and Shell scripting, with the ability to design and implement scalable automation solutions across infrastructure and operational domains.
• Hands-on experience with cloud technologies, including cloud networking, security, identity management, monitoring, and hybrid cloud environments.
• Proven capability working with automation and Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Ansible, Terraform, or equivalent platforms.
• Experience administering GitHub repositories and supporting CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Azure DevOps, or similar DevOps toolsets.
• Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work across multiple technology domains and contribute to strategic technical outcomes.
• Exposure to HFC, DOCSIS, CMTS, or broadband access network technologies.
• Experience working within telecommunications, network operations, or service provider environments.
• Knowledge of observability and monitoring platforms including Grafana, Splunk, ELK, or similar technologies.
• Industry certifications across Networking, Linux, Cloud, Automation, or DevOps disciplines.
• Exposure to containerisation technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
