Job summary

DFAT is seeking a Senior .NET Developer to design, develop and maintain modern full‑stack applications across cloud and on‑prem environments. You will collaborate with architects, stakeholders and delivery teams to deliver secure, scalable government systems for passport services and ICT initiatives.

The role requires 5+ years in .NET full‑stack, strong Vue.js, and experience with CI/CD, Azure DevOps and agile delivery within a secure enterprise setting.

Qualifications

Our client, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), is responsible for advancing Australia's international interests through diplomacy, trade, development and consular services. Within DFAT's Information Management and Technology Division, the Passports IT Section delivers and supports critical systems that underpin Australia's passport services.

DFAT is seeking experienced Senior .NET Developers to contribute to the enhancement, delivery and ongoing support of mission‑critical applications supporting passport systems and priority ICT initiatives.

Job Description

This is an opportunity to work on nationally significant applications that support essential government services. As a Senior .NET Developer, you will play a key role within agile delivery teams, helping design, develop and maintain modern full-stack applications across cloud and on‑premises environments.

You will collaborate with architects, developers, business stakeholders and delivery teams to deliver secure, scalable and high-performing solutions while contributing to the ongoing modernisation of DFAT's technology landscape.

We're looking for developers who are technically strong, proactive, adaptable and passionate about delivering meaningful outcomes in a complex enterprise environment.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain full-stack applications using .NET and Vue.js
• Develop modern web solutions using JavaScript and TypeScript frameworks
• Build and support applications across cloud and on‑premises environments
• Implement secure coding practices aligned with Cyber ISM principles and OWASP guidelines
• Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment processes
• Manage and contribute to Azure DevOps repositories, workflows and governance processes
• Collaborate with cross-functional agile teams to deliver high-quality solutions
• Participate in system design, technical planning and solution development activities
• Troubleshoot and resolve application issues across development and production environments
• Produce and maintain technical documentation and development artefacts
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and modern development practices
• Engage with technical and non-technical stakeholders to deliver business outcomes

Education/Certifications Required

• Relevant tertiary qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related discipline is desirable
• Microsoft certifications or cloud certifications will be highly regarded

Knowledge/Skills Required

• 5+ years of experience in Microsoft .NET full-stack development
• Strong commercial experience with Vue.js
• Experience developing applications using modern JavaScript and TypeScript frameworks
• Proven capability delivering solutions across cloud and on‑premises environments
• Strong understanding of application security, least-privilege principles and secure development practices
• Experience implementing and managing CI/CD pipelines
• Strong Azure DevOps experience, including repository management and delivery governance
• Experience working within Agile delivery environments
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
• Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver outcomes under pressure
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to explain technical concepts to a diverse stakeholder audience
