Job summary

The Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA) in Melbourne seeks a Senior Native Title Officer to lead negotiations and settlements of native title claims under the Native Title Act 1993 and the Victorian TOS Act.

The role sits in the Traditional Owner Agreements Unit within the First Peoples Self Determination Division and supports policy guidance for Traditional Owner land management initiatives.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification(s) including in law or public policy is desirable.
• Experience delivering policy programs in native title negotiations and land management.
• Knowledge of First Peoples culture and ability to communicate with Aboriginal communities.
• Experience delivering culturally informed government policies and services.

Responsibilities

• Lead negotiation and settlement of native title claims and agreements.
• Support development of native title policy and guidance for negotiations.
• Advise on Traditional Owner land management rights and governance.
• Oversee procedural rights processes for future act and land use on Crown land.
