Job summary

Fortescue is seeking a Senior Mining Engineer to join the Short-Term Planning team at Cloudbreak mine. The role focuses on coordinating 2-week mining schedules, overseeing mine development projects and associated designs, and working with operating and technical teams to assess risks and opportunities.

Reporting to the Short Term Planning Superintendent, you will lead planning engineers, coordinate mine plans and deliverables, and drive improvements while ensuring safety and efficiency in a FIFO

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or similar.
  • Strong computer proficiency with demonstrated capability in AI tools.
  • Proven experience leading and developing engaged, empowered and efficient teams.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with both operations and technical teams.
  • Team orientation and strong initiative.
  • Excellent communication/presentation skills to convey technical detail, risks and opportunities to stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach and develop planning engineers and graduates, building technical capability and promoting best-practice mine planning across the team.
  • Provide and coordinate short-term mine plans.
  • Provide and coordinate mine designs, including pit designs, waste dump designs, and supporting infrastructure design.
  • Liaise with support functions to understand risks and opportunities and enable timely milestones.
  • Coordinate multiple stakeholders in mine development projects to distribute resources and meet deadlines.
  • Lead and drive business improvement initiatives.
  • Deliver product quality, pit progression, waste schedules, fleet requirements, cost estimations and other technical guidance as required.

Our Opportunity

Work Location: Cloudbreak - Fortescue’s Cloudbreak mine is located on the traditional lands of the Palyku and Nyiyaparli peoples.

Roster: 4 Days on / 3 Days Off – FIFO ex Perth

We are currently seeking a highly motivated Senior Mining Engineer to join our Short-Term Planning team. Reporting to the Short Term Planning Superintendent, this role is responsible for coordinating 2week Mining Schedules for our Cloudbreak mine site and coordinating mine development projects and associated designs.

To be successful in this role, candidates must have strong interpersonal skills with both operational and technical teams, short to medium-term planning and mine designing experience, and be able to articulate potential risks and opportunities within the planned works.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead, coach and develop planning engineers and graduates, building technical capability and promoting best-practice mine planning across the team.
  • Provide and coordinate short-term mine plans.
  • Provide and coordinate mine designs, including pit designs, waste dump designs, and supporting infrastructure design
  • Liaise with support functions, including Decarb, AI, Approvals, Geology, Geotechnical, OPF, mining, maintenance,project and Hydrogeology, to understand risks and opportunities to the operation and to enable the timely achievement of mining milestones.
  • Coordination of multiple stakeholders in mine development projects to distribute resources effectively and meet critical deadlines for delivery.
  • Lead and drive business improvement initiatives.
  • Delivering product quality, pit progression, waste schedules, fleet requirements, cost estimations and other technical guidance as required.
Qualifications And Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or similar.
  • Strong computer proficiency, with demonstrated capability in AI tools
  • Proven experience of leading and developing engaged, empowered and efficient teams.
  • Relevant experience gained as a mining engineer (5 years minimum).
  • Practical approach to engineering and design problems.
  • Knowledge in open pit mining, preferably in iron ore.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with both operations and technical teams.
  • Team orientation and strong ability to take initiative.
  • Excellent communication/presentation skills with the ability to convey technical detail, potential risks, and opportunities within the planned works to a variety of stakeholders.
