Job summary

Douglass Hanly Moir Pathology in Macquarie Park NSW is seeking an enthusiastic Health Professional to join our Microbiology team. You will perform routine and specialised testing, read culture plates, interpret microscopy, and contribute to QA/QC and training in a fast-paced environment.

You will identify microorganisms using conventional and automated methods, perform susceptibility testing, and support junior staff while collaborating with the team. On-site parking is available.

Qualifications

• Graduate with Medical Science degree or equivalent.
• Minimum 5 years' plate reading experience in clinical microbiology.
• Experience with both automated and manual culture plate reading and Gram staining.
• Understanding of QA/QC processes in a clinical lab.
• Excellent communication, analytical and organisational skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and specialised microbiological testing on clinical specimens.
• Read and interpret culture plates from a wide range of specimen types.
• Conduct and interpret microscopy, including Gram stains.
• Identify clinically significant microorganisms using conventional and automated methodologies.
• Perform antimicrobial susceptibility testing and interpret results.
• Ensure compliance with laboratory quality management systems, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Participate in quality control, quality assurance, and proficiency testing activities.
• Support junior staff through training and mentoring.
• Collaborating with other team members to achieve tasks promptly and accurately.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and workflow optimisation.
