Job summary

Qualifications

• Recognised mechanical trade qualification with 8+ years experience in relevant field.
• Experience with operation, maintenance, diagnosis and optimisation of mechanical systems or scientific instrumentation.
• Ability to manufacture and fabricate with standard workshop equipment ensuring safety, quality and efficiency.
• Proficient in 3D CAD modelling (SolidWorks, Autodesk Fusion) and producing manufacturing drawings.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office and computer-based systems.
• Experience developing SWMS, SOPs, risk assessments, and maintenance procedures.
• Ability to provide OHS/WHS advice and promote safe work practices.
• High attention to detail and workmanship.

To be successful in the role, you will require the following:

• A recognised mechanical trade qualification in a relevant discipline (such as Fitting and Turning, Toolmaking, Instrument Making, or equivalent), supported by a minimum of eight years' relevant industry experience, or an equivalent combination of demonstrated skills, knowledge, and practical experience in a specialised mechanical engineering field
• Demonstrated knowledge and practical experience in the operation, maintenance, diagnosis, and optimisation of complex mechanical systems and/or scientific instrumentation.
• Demonstrated ability to carry out manufacturing and fabrication tasks using standard workshop equipment, while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and efficiency.
• Demonstrated proficiency in 3D CAD modelling (e.g. SolidWorks and Autodesk Fusion), with the ability to develop component and assembly models, produce manufacturing drawings, and support the transition from design to production.
• Demonstrated proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office applications and the ability to effectively utilise computer-based systems and software
• Demonstrated experience in developing and maintaining technical documentation, including Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), risk assessments, and maintenance procedures.
• Ability to provide OHS/WHS advice on mechanical systems and processes and consistently apply and promote safe work practices in accordance with relevant legislation, standards, and organisational procedures.
• Demonstrated high level of attention to detail, with a commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work and maintaining high standards of workmanship.
• Experience operating CNC machinery, a current Dogging High Risk Work Licence, and a current Forklift High Risk Work Licence are desirable.
• Experience in the maintenance, testing, and commissioning of Ultra High Vacuum (UHV) systems and equipment would be highly regarded.
