Job summary

AECOM seeks an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead underground mining projects in Australia. You will deliver concept to detailed design, support commissioning and readiness, and oversee multidisciplinary scopes for material handling, fixed plant, ventilation, and dewatering systems.

You will act as a technical leader within a multidisciplinary team, liaising with clients, vendors, and site personnel to ensure quality deliverables and compliance with Australian standards and mining

Qualifications

• Demonstrated ability to independently deliver complex mechanical engineering scopes with minimal supervision.
• Strong first-principles engineering capability across materials handling, bulk solids flow, rotating equipment, fluid systems, and fixed plant infrastructure.
• Deep understanding of underground hard rock mining operations and the constraints of designing for confined, remote, high-risk environments.
• Strong technical capability in conveyor design, transfer chute design, and bulk materials handling systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development and delivery of mechanical engineering design packages for underground mining and materials handling projects.
• Perform conveyor system design and analysis using Sidewinder and Belt Analyst Conveyor Design Software.
• Apply bulk solids handling principles to design bins, chutes, feeders, and ore handling systems.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary interfaces to deliver integrated engineering outcomes.
• Conduct technical reviews, risk assessments, HAZOPs, and constructability reviews.
