Job summary

Newport News Shipbuilding in Adelaide, Australia, is seeking a senior mechanical/industrial engineer to support in-country qualification, supplier development, and TSIB collaboration. The role requires coordinating with US and AUS teams to qualify suppliers for VCS/ AUKUS programs and to meet production pace.

Strong QA and supplier management experience is essential. Beginning March 2027 for two years with potential renewals, relocation assistance is available and extensive travel is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree and 9 years of relevant exempt experience; Master’s Degree and 7 years; Ph.D. and 4 years.
• Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

Responsibilities

• Identify US SIB gaps and pathways to meet projected demand.
• Evaluate AUS supply chain potential to close gaps and meet demand.
• Lead phased pilot manufacturing with AUS suppliers for qualification.
• Provide technical support to accelerate qualification timelines in the US supply base.
• Assess suppliers for Technical and Quality Management System requirements.
• Develop an end-to-end qualification process for new suppliers.
• Conduct supplier visits and supplier technical assessments as needed.
• Document capabilities and challenges of potential suppliers.
• Develop roadmaps for full supplier qualification.
• Collaborate with suppliers during waves of pilots from PO to delivery.
