Job description

As the Quality Control Lead you will be responsible for the Management of Quality Activities on major projects undertaken within the Australian shipbuilding business. Ensuring that project Quality obligations are met and for ensuring that project Quality activity is aligned to both program and functional objectives and the wider objectives of the Australia business.

What’s Involved
  • Provide Quality Leadership on major projects undertaken within the Australian shipbuilding business.
  • Develop and implement Project Quality Plans, consistent with the Austal Quality Management System (QMS), tailored where necessary to meet the needs of assigned projects and or programs of work.
  • Manage, review and monitor; Project compliance to Quality Management System and project specific requirements and Product non-conformance in accordance with prescribed standards.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate project quality risks.
  • Continuously review and improve project processes to improve business operations and the quality of Austal supplied products.
  • Provide support and guidance to assigned Project and Quality teams to deliver Austal Quality Assurance best practice – within assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Lead the development and implementation of Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs).
  • Define Quality objectives, inspection schedules and Quality control processes.
  • Lead a team of Quality inspectors and coordinate with trades, engineering, and project teams.
You’ll Need
  • Diploma or higher qualification in a Quality Assurance, Business Management, Engineering, or other related discipline.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a Quality Management role.
  • Lead auditor training (Nationally Accredited).
  • Skilled in writing clear, structured procedures and quality processes aligned with industry
  • standards, ensuring traceability, compliance, and effective implementation across project teams.
  • Proven Project Management experience and or Project Management Qualification.
  • Qualification in Lean Manufacturing/TQM or Six Sigma.
  • Recognised training qualification in root cause analysis.
  • Shipbuilding experience.
