Job summary

SEEK is seeking an experienced Senior HVAC Engineer in Melbourne to lead design and delivery of advanced HVAC systems for commercial buildings. You will oversee a small team of engineers and draftspeople, ensuring compliance with NCC and AS/NZS standards and driving energy-efficient solutions.

Reporting to the General Manager, you will coordinate with builders, contractors and multi-disciplinary teams to ensure integration and quality.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 5+ years' experience in HVAC design and engineering.
• Expertise in chiller systems, boilers, ventilation and controls.
• Knowledge of Australian building codes and NCC/AS/NZS standards.
• Registration or eligibility for Chartered Engineer with Engineers Australia.

Our client is a well established leader across the HVAC industry and are developing their Commercial Teams.

Reporting to the General Manager, the successful applicant will be respsonsible for managing all aspects of engineering which includes providing technical expertise and leading a small team of engineers and draftspeople.

Key responsibilities

Design and develop comprehensive HVAC systems for commercial buildings, ensuring compliance with relevant building codes and energy efficiency standards.

Lead the technical evaluation of HVAC system performance, troubleshooting complex issues and implementing corrective solutions.

Collaborate with builders, contractors and other engineering disciplines to ensure seamless integration of HVAC systems within building designs.

Supervise and mentor junior staff, fostering their professional development and ensuring adherence to quality standards.

Prepare and review technical specifications, drawings and documentation for HVAC projects.

Perform energy audits and optimisation studies to enhance system efficiency and reduce operational costs.

Stay current with emerging HVAC technologies, industry standards and best practices, providing recommendations for system improvements.

Liaise with clients and stakeholders to understand project requirements and deliver solutions that meet their specifications and budget constraints.

What we're looking for

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.

Minimum 5+ years' professional experience in HVAC design and engineering, with substantial experience in HVAC.

Proven expertise in HVAC system design, including chiller systems, boilers, ventilation, ductwork design and controls.

Strong knowledge of Australian building codes, standards and regulations relevant to HVAC systems (NCC, AS/NZS standards).

Professional engineering registration or eligibility for registration as a Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) with Engineers Australia.

Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.

Demonstrated leadership capability and experience mentoring junior engineers.

Understanding of energy efficiency principles and sustainability in building services is highly desirable.
