Job summary

Profound People in Adelaide is seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer for the Defence Aerospace sector. You will bridge design and manufacturing, providing technical leadership, conducting quick hand-calcs, and guiding rapid decisions on the shop floor.

You'll own structural analyses for strength and weight, mentor engineers, run design reviews, ensure AS9100/ITAR compliance, and drive manufacturability in a weekly-cadence environment.

Qualifications

• Proven mechanical design experience in defence/aerospace environments.
• Hands-on, shop-floor capable with fast decision making.
• Experience with structural analysis for strength and weight.
• Familiarity with major FEA tools (ANSYS/NASTRAN) and CAD (SolidWorks).
• Able to obtain and maintain NV1 security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, development and testing of mechanical systems and set technical standards.
• Perform rapid hand-calc verification to reach quick, defensible answers.
• Own structural analysis for failure-point minimisation and weight reduction.
• Conduct design reviews, risk assessments and failure investigations.
• Collaborate with machinists, fabricators and assembly teams to resolve issues.
• Drive design-for-manufacturability improvements while maintaining safety.
• Mentor junior engineers and influence the multidisciplinary team.
• Ensure compliance with Defence, AS9100, ISO, ITAR and document approvals.
• Operate in a fast-paced weekly-cadence environment with daily decisions.
