Job summary

ProFound People is helping a Wollongong-based engineering firm recruit a Senior Mechanical Engineer with strong structural design experience. The role is permanent and located near Wollongong, NSW.

The ideal candidate will have 3+ years in mechanical engineering, a mechanical engineering degree, and familiarity with heavy industry sectors. Applicants should be skilled in CAD and able to produce engineering drawings and documentation.

Job description

SALARY – $120,000 - $140,000 per annum, dependent on experience

TYPE – Permanent

LOCATION – Wollongong, NSW

My client is an established engineering business delivering a range of specialist projects. They are looking for a Mechanical Engineer with strong structural engineering experience to join their team near Wollongong on a permanent basis.

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will ideally have the following attributes:

• At least 3 years of experience in a similar Mechanical Engineering position
• Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering
• Experience working in a heavy industry – O&G, Mining, Minerals Processing, Power Generation, Bulk Materials Handling or similar
• Previous experience with structural design and analysis
• Experience designing steel structures, frames, platforms and supporting structures
• Strong knowledge of relevant Australian Standards, ideally AS 4100 and AS/NZS 1170
• Experience producing engineering drawings and technical documentation
• Strong understanding of mechanical components, fabrication and manufacturing processesHighly skilled with relevant CAD and engineering design software
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Able to manage projects and work to deadlines and budgets
• Able to work well individually as well as part of a team

The Senior Mechanical Engineer role will involve:

• Designing and developing mechanical components, equipment and systems
• Performing mechanical and structural calculations and design verification
• Producing and reviewing engineering drawings and documentation
• Working closely with structural engineers, manufacturing and other departments
• Supporting projects from concept through to production
• Liaising with manufacturing providers and external stakeholders
• Conducting design reviews and providing technical solutions
• Checking designs and drawings for sign off
• Creating required documentation for design and project reports
• Working in a small, multi-disciplinary team on varied projects
