Job summary

Worley in Western Australia seeks a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join the project team based at Wagerup. The role is site-based full-time with potential to transition to hybrid after familiarisation.

Deliver mechanical engineering services meeting Worley, client and regulatory requirements. Develop fit-for-purpose solutions from concept to as-built, emphasising safety, constructability and maintainability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering (4-year).
• 8+ years in Refinery/Mining or similar industries, leading projects at discipline level.
• 5+ years in brownfield processing plants/refineries, preferably Alumina.
• Ability to work across multiple projects.
• Experience across all phases of engineering projects.
• Strong understanding of equipment layout, pumps, piping, slurry systems, pipe stress, pressure equipment, materials handling, and reading drawings (P&ID, piping, general mechanical).
• Proficient in MS Office and discipline software including Navisworks, AFT Fathom/Fluid Flow 3, Bluebeam, etc.

Responsibilities

• Deliver mechanical engineering services meeting Worley, client, statutory and regulatory requirements.
• Undertake design and technical verification of discipline deliverables.
• Develop fit-for-purpose solutions from concept to as-built, considering safety, constructability, operability and maintainability.
• Identify and manage safety hazards and asset lifecycle risks with appropriate actions.
• Lead engineering activities including scope control, calculations, drawings, documentation, checking and project reviews.
• Prepare mechanical engineering estimates for RFQs with scope and resourcing.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of Worley engineering systems and processes.
• In project lead capacity: manage task sequencing to support schedules, coordinate third-party activities, and act as primary client interface.
• Maintain technical integrity through checking, design reviews and quality control.
• Provide technical direction and resource coordination for engineering and design.
• Deliver outputs on schedule and budget while managing change control and progress reporting.

We're seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join the project team based at Wagerup. The role is required to be based at site full time and can transition to a hybrid role once familiarised with the role and project.

Work on some of Australia’s most significant industrial assets, partnering with industry-leading operations to deliver innovative engineering solutions, major projects and critical operational support.

Responsibilities

• Deliver mechanical engineering services that meet Worley, client, statutory and regulatory requirements.
• Undertake engineering design and technical verification of discipline deliverables.
• Develop fit-for-purpose solutions from concept to as-built, considering safety, sustainability, constructability, operability, maintainability and decommissioning.
• Identify and manage safety hazards and asset lifecycle risks, ensuring relevant actions are closed out.
• Identify issues, develop practical solutions and seek support where required.
• Perform and/or manage discipline engineering activities, including scope control, calculations, drawings, documentation, checking, project reviews, HAZIDs/HAZOPs and safety in design workshops.
• Prepare mechanical engineering estimates for RFQs, including scope, methodology, assumptions, exclusions, deliverables, schedule inputs and resourcing requirements.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of Worley engineering systems, processes, practices and procedures.
• In a project lead capacity:
• Manage engineering task sequencing to support project schedules, including third-party activities.
• Act as the primary client interface for discipline-specific engineering matters.
• Maintain technical integrity through checking, design reviews and quality control.
• Provide technical direction, supervision and resource coordination for engineering and design.
• Deliver discipline outputs on schedule and budget while managing change control, technical queries, progress reporting, files and squad checks.

Candidate criteria

• Tertiary qualifications with a 4-year Bachelor degree in Engineering majoring in Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum 8 years technical experience in the Refinery/Mining Industry or similar industry; including experience leading projects on a discipline level.
• Extensive experience (>5 years recent) in brownfield processing plants / refineries, preferably in the Alumina industry.
• Must have ability to work across multiple projects.
• Experience across all phases of engineering projects.
• Good understanding and proven experience in:
• Equipment layout
• Design of pump and piping systems
• Fluid system analysis and design particularly of slurry systems
• Pipe stress analysis
• Design of pressure equipment
• Design of materials handling equipment
• Read and interpret drawings, including general mechanical, piping and P&ID drawings.
• Competent in the use of relevant software such as MS Office Suite and discipline specific software including:
• AFT Fathom / Fluid Flow 3
• Non compressible and compressible fluid system analysis
• Navisworks
• Bluebeam / Adobe Suite
