Job summary

Worley is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Portland team on a full-time, site-based 12-month contract, with likelihood of extension. The role supports an industrial environment, with potential monthly visits to Adelaide.

The ideal candidate will hold an Australian recognised Degree in Engineering, with CPEng preferred and RPEV mandatory, and have experience in aluminium smelting or similar industries. You will deliver mechanical engineering services across multi-site projects.

Qualifications

• CPEng preferred, RPEV mandatory.
• Knowledge of local and international standards and statutory requirements.
• Experience in aluminium smelting or similar industry.

Responsibilities

• Deliver mechanical engineering services that meet Worley and applicable statutory and regulatory specifications, on time and within budget.
• Initiate, manage and if required supervise mechanical engineering project requirements.
• Participate in meetings, prepare progress reports and follow required checking procedures; ensure changes follow project change management processes.
• Provide assistance during procurement, construction and commissioning activities (e.g., write requisitions, conduct technical bid evaluations, write purchase orders).
• If required, act as the mechanical engineering Lead on specific projects.
• If responsible for a team, outline project requirements, assign tasks and supervise progress while ensuring compliance and budget.
• Proactively resolve discrepancies between Worley and Customer requirements.
• Keep up-to-date with developments and innovations in mechanical engineering.
• Assist and support junior personnel within the mechanical engineering team.
• Communicate effectively with the mechanical engineering team and project stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Deliver mechanical engineering services that meet Worley', its customers' and applicable statutory and regulatory specifications, on time and within budget.
• Initiate, manage and if required supervise mechanical engineering project requirements.
• Perform mechanical engineering services such as:
• Participate in relevant meetings, prepare progress reports and follow required checking procedures.
• Ensure the project scope is clear and that changes comply with project change management processes.
• Provide assistance and advice during procurement, construction and commissioning activities. For example, write requisitions, conduct technical bid evaluations and write purchase orders.
• If required, act as the mechanical engineering Lead on specific projects.
• If responsible for a team:
• Outline project requirements including actively promoting workshare, where appropriate, assign tasks and supervise progress and
• Ensure the required services meet Worley, its customers and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements, on time and within budget.
• Proactively resolve any discrepancies between Worley and its Customer's requirements.
• Keep up-to-date with the latest developments and technical innovations in mechanical engineering.
• If required, assist and support junior personnel within the mechanical engineering team.
• Communicate effectively with the mechanical engineering team and project stakeholders, including the Customer.
• Identify issues and problems, develop appropriate solutions, and ask for assistance when required.

About You

• Australian recognised Degree in Engineering
• Registration: CPEng (preferred), RPEV (mandatory)
• Highly effective technical and practical engineering skills and ability to consistently deliver quality, accurate and timely work to Worley and its customers.
• A sound knowledge of the fundamental requirements of the mechanical engineering, and the basic requirements of other engineering fields.
• Experience in Aluminium smelting or similar industry.
• Technical and practical experience in all or some of the below areas:
• Cranes and lifting equipment
• Bulk materials handling and storage
• Mobile Equipment
• Molten Metal Furnaces and Casting
• Cooling Towers and cooling water systems
• Air Compressors
• Fume treatment
• Aluminium Reduction
• Heat transfer systems and associated calculation
• Hydraulic/pump calculation
• FEA analysis of machinery
• Machine Maintenance and Reliability
• A sound knowledge of applicable local and international standards and statutory and regulatory requirements.
• Competent use of mechanical engineering specific software.
