Job summary

Chandler Macleod is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join a large-scale refinery operation in Wagerup, WA. You will provide mechanical leadership, drive reliability improvements and mentor a small team within a complex processing environment.

The role concentrates on equipment performance, asset integrity and continuous improvement across critical plant areas, with a Monday–Friday schedule and a mid-September 2026 start window.

Senior Mechanical Engineer

Wagerup, WA (Approximately 120km South of Perth) | Monday to Friday

We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join a large-scale refinery operation based in Wagerup, Western Australia, approximately 120km south of Perth. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong engineering professional to provide leadership, drive reliability improvements, and mentor a small team of engineers within a complex processing environment.

Working closely with operations and maintenance teams, you will play a key role in ensuring equipment performance, asset integrity, and continuous improvement across critical plant areas.

About the Role

As the Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will provide mechanical engineering leadership and technical expertise while leading a small team of engineers. You will be responsible for improving equipment reliability, supporting plant performance, and delivering engineering solutions that enhance operational efficiency and safety.

This opportunity is available from mid-September 2026 through to the end of January 2027 and offers a valuable leadership role within a large-scale refinery operation.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide mechanical engineering leadership and support across the Precipitation and Calcination areas.
• Lead and facilitate problem-solving initiatives and Root Cause Analyses (RCA) for significant equipment failures and downtime events.
• Provide expert engineering advice and technical support to operations and maintenance teams.
• Develop and improve equipment management strategies using reliability engineering principles and methodologies.
• Develop scopes of work for major equipment repairs and engineering projects, including fitness-for-service assessments.
• Lead, coach and mentor a small engineering team, ensuring engineering outcomes are delivered safely and effectively.
• Monitor, maintain and manage asset health and equipment performance.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to identify continuous improvement opportunities and implement sustainable solutions.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will bring strong technical capability, leadership experience and a passion for reliability and asset management.

Essential Skills & Experience

• Previous experience in a Senior or Lead Mechanical Engineering position.
• Demonstrated experience leading or supervising a small engineering team.
• Experience in maintenance, reliability, plant engineering and asset management.
• Sound understanding of risk management, statutory compliance and reliability engineering principles.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build relationships across all levels of an organisation.
• Proven ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced operational environment.
• Knowledge of welding procedures and pressure equipment.

Desirable Experience

• Experience working with:
  • Pumps
  • Gearboxes
  • Rotary Kilns
  • Vacuum Filters
  • Calciners
  • Tanks
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
• Experience using CMMS systems, ideally EAM.
• Exposure to Continuous Improvement methodologies and practices.
