Job summary

AWMA is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to independently deliver engineered designs in line with project scope and deadlines. Strong SolidWorks capability and a solid grasp of first principles will ensure products meet quality, functionality and manufacturability standards.

This role supports the engineering team and may act as the technical authority for the product, with occasional travel to the head office in Cohuna, Victoria.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years as a Mechanical Design Engineer in customised product/project delivery.
• Advanced SolidWorks 3D modelling and drafting skills.
• Strong capability in mechanical engineering first principles.
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• High attention to detail and strong analytical capability.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate across teams.

Responsibilities

• Interpret project briefs and client data sheets to size and specify product configurations.
• Apply mechanical engineering principles to determine load cases, standards and failure modes.
• Identify when designs fall outside standard parameters and adapt solutions.
• Develop the engineering basis for designs, supporting GA and product configuration.
• Produce high-quality technical submittals for client and third-party review.
• Respond to routine technical queries from clients, contractors, or internal stakeholders.
• Independently produce complete drawing packages including GA, fabrication drawings and BOM.
• Ensure designs consider tolerances, manufacturability, and interfaces with civil/structural elements.
• Review and validate design outputs, addressing inconsistencies or risks proactively.
• Participate in engineering and constructability reviews.
