Job summary

Altis Consulting in Australia is seeking a hands-on Data Engineer who can shape business problems into practical data solutions and lead delivery for clients.

You'll design scalable data platforms and pipelines across Databricks, Snowflake and Azure, translate requirements, mentor consultants, and build strong relationships with technical and business stakeholders. The role offers a hybrid work model and opportunities to grow with the Queensland capability.

At Altis Consulting, we're looking for a hands‑on Data Engineer who enjoys being close to both the technology and the client.

This is a role for someone who can take a business problem, shape the right technical approach, and lead it through to a practical outcome. You'll work across modern data platforms and engineering solutions while building trusted relationships with clients and helping develop the consultants around you.

What you'll do

• Design scalable data platforms, pipelines, integration and analytics solutions.
• Work across modern cloud technologies including Databricks, Snowflake and the Microsoft/Azure ecosystem.
• Translate complex business requirements into clear technical solutions.
• Guide and mentor consultants and contribute to a strong engineering culture.
• Build trusted relationships with technical and business stakeholders.
• Identify opportunities to create additional value for clients and contribute to proposals and solution shaping.

What you'll bring

You'll have strong experience across data engineering, architecture or analytics consulting and be comfortable operating directly with clients.

We're particularly interested in experience across:

• Modern data engineering and data modelling
• Cloud data platforms - Databricks, Snowflake, Azure or comparable technologies
• Databricks experience essential
• SQL and modern data integration/ELT patterns
• Data quality, governance and sustainable engineering practices
• Leading projects or small technical teams
• Consulting, advisory or client-facing delivery

You don't need to have worked with every technology we use. We're more interested in strong foundations, sound technical judgement and an ability to learn.

The person we're looking for

You enjoy solving ambiguous problems, can challenge thinking respectfully and know when a technically impressive solution isn't necessarily the right business solution.

You'll be comfortable talking architecture with engineers one minute and explaining the value of the solution to an executive stakeholder the next.
