About The Role

As Tyro continues to grow, particularly across online payments, we're looking for a Scheme Compliance Lead to help us navigate the evolving requirements of the payments industry.

You’ll play a key role in understanding changes from Visa, Mastercard and other payment schemes, translating complex requirements into practical actions that keep Tyro compliant and moving forward. Working closely with Product, Engineering, Risk and other teams, you'll have the opportunity to influence important decisions, manage emerging risks and shape how we respond to industry change. This is a role for someone who brings deep payments knowledge, thinks independently and thrives in a fast-moving environment where your expertise can make a real impact.

What You'll Do
  • Own the assessment and management of payment scheme requirements, ensuring Tyro understands and responds to changes from Visa, Mastercard and other relevant schemes.
  • Turn technical scheme bulletins and requirements into clear, practical insights that help teams understand what matters, why it matters and what needs to happen next.
  • Evaluate how scheme changes affect Tyro's products, payments infrastructure and operations, identifying compliance risks and recommending appropriate actions.
  • Work closely with Product, Engineering, Payments, Settlements, Networks and Risk to prioritise and coordinate the delivery of scheme-related changes.
  • Lead the investigation, escalation and remediation of scheme non-compliance matters, including potential financial penalties and associated risks.
  • Provide expert advice to senior stakeholders, balancing scheme obligations, business priorities and technical considerations to support informed decision-making.
  • Challenge unnecessary complexity, simplify processes and use AI and automation to improve how scheme information is reviewed, assessed and communicated.
  • Provide guidance and support to team members, share specialist knowledge and build strong relationships across the business and payments industry.
What You'll Bring
  • Strong experience in scheme compliance, card payments or a closely related payments discipline, with a solid understanding of Visa and Mastercard requirements.
  • An understanding of the payments ecosystem, including acquiring, payment processing and the infrastructure supporting card transactions. Experience with settlements or payment networks will be highly regarded.
  • An ability to take complex, technical information and explain it simply, adapting your approach for everyone from Engineering teams to senior business stakeholders.
  • Experience navigating complex compliance issues, assessing risk and making pragmatic recommendations when competing priorities or challenging decisions arise.
  • A track record of building trusted relationships and influencing outcomes across Product, Engineering, Risk and other business functions.
  • Confidence to work independently, challenge existing thinking and take accountability for delivering outcomes without relying on layers of process or hierarchy.
  • A practical, action-oriented approach, with the ability to focus on what matters, move quickly and deliver in a changing environment.
  • Experience using AI tools to improve productivity, simplify workflows or reduce manual effort, alongside a curiosity for finding better ways of working.
  • The ability to mentor others, share expertise and bring people together to solve problems. Previous people leadership experience would be an advantage.
  • An interest in working in an agile, growing fintech where you can have a voice, influence decisions and make a meaningful contribution to the future of payments.
What’s in it for you?

We’ve worked hard to create an environment that’s big on diversity, inclusion, and flexibility, and one that suits the changing needs of team members across Australia. Here are just some of the things Tyros tell us they love about working here.

You’ll also receive:
