Job summary

National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA) is seeking an EL1 Senior Lawyer to lead legal work under the General Counsel, providing strategic advice, drafting and support on legislation and policy development.

You will specialise in Commonwealth dispute resolution and litigation, FOI, privacy, finance and other corporate law matters, while supervising and developing less experienced staff and engaging with stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Legal qualifications and admission to practice.
• Eligibility to hold a government restricted Australian legal practising certificate.
• 3–5 years post-admission experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide legal advice and drafting under the General Counsel and Principal Lawyers.
• Design, development and implementation of legislation, policies and programs in support of NIAA objectives.
• Handle grant and procurement contracts, property and other commercial law matters.
