Job summary

The National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA) seeks an EL1 Senior Lawyer to lead legal work under the General Counsel and Principal Lawyers. You will provide strategic legal advice, draft legislation and policy, and support procurement, contracts and various Commonwealth law matters.

You will oversee FOI, privacy, finance and employment law, and contribute to dispute resolution and litigation while mentoring less experienced staff and ensuring professional standards.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years post-admission experience preferred.
• EL1 Senior Lawyer role with leadership responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Provide legal advice and drafting under the direction of the General Counsel and Principal Lawyers.
• Support the design, development and implementation of legislation, policies and programs.
• Advise on grant and procurement contracts, property and other commercial law matters.
• Handle freedom of information, privacy, finance law, employment and other corporate law matters.
• Support Commonwealth dispute resolution and litigation.
