Job summary

HCF is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to provide pragmatic, commercially focused legal advice across the business. Reporting to the Head of Legal and Compliance, you will support corporate, commercial, privacy, consumer and regulatory matters and oversee legal risk management.

You will work with senior stakeholders, manage external providers, and help ensure compliance with evolving legislation. This is a purpose-driven organisation where your legal expertise will make a meaningful impact.

Qualifications

• Law degree from a recognised Australian or overseas institution.
• Minimum 7 years' post-admission experience.
• Experience in corporate, commercial, privacy, consumer law or regulatory advisory.
• Ability to operate at both strategic and operational levels.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Review, draft and negotiate commercial agreements across supplier, procurement, technology and data-sharing.
• Provide privacy, consumer law and regulatory advice.
• Review customer materials and marketing content for compliance.
• Support stakeholders with pragmatic, commercially focused legal guidance.
• Assist Head of Legal and Compliance with governance, risk and reporting.
• Develop and deliver legal training to enhance compliance awareness.

Join HCF as a Senior Legal Counsel and play a key role in supporting the business with pragmatic, commercially focused legal advice. Reporting to the Head of Legal and Compliance, you will provide legal support across a broad range of corporate, commercial, privacy, consumer and regulatory matters, oversee legal risk management activities, manage external legal providers, and help ensure compliance with evolving legislative and regulatory requirements across the HCF Group. This is an opportunity to work closely with senior stakeholders and make a meaningful impact in a purpose-driven organisation.

Key Responsibilities

• Review, draft and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements, including supplier, procurement, technology, data-sharing and confidentiality agreements.
• Provide legal advice on privacy, consumer law, customer communications and regulatory obligations.
• Review and advise on customer-facing materials, communications, marketing content and business initiatives to ensure legal and regulatory compliance.
• Support business stakeholders by providing pragmatic and commercially focused legal advice.
• Assist the Head of Legal and Compliance with governance, risk and stakeholder reporting activities.
• Develop and deliver legal training to enhance compliance awareness and legal capability across the business.

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

Law degree from a recognised Australian or overseas institution.

Minimum 7 years' post-admission experience, ideally gained across both private practice and in-house environments.

Strong experience in corporate, commercial, privacy, consumer law, regulatory advisory or a similarly regulated environment.

Ability to operate confidently at both strategic and operational levels.

Sound judgement and the ability to manage complex legal and commercial issues.

Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and advise at all levels of an organisation.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritise, facilitate and coach others.
