Job summary

La Trobe Financial in Melbourne is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel for a 12-month fixed-term basis to provide legal services across the business. You will join the Legal team in Risk & Governance, delivering commercial advice on lending, funding, contracts and fund marketing.

Key duties include briefing top-tier firms on complex issues, reviewing transactional documents, supporting funding transactions, and assisting with governance and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• 5+ years PAE in law firm or in-house practice.
• Qualified with LLB and current practicing certificate.
• Experience in lending, funds management, contracts or regulatory matters is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide commercial legal advice across lending, funds management and marketing.
• Brief top-tier law firms on complex issues and advise the business accordingly.
• Review/prepare transactional documents such as NDAs and service agreements.
• Support funding transactions including RMBS and institutional warehouses.
• Assist with corporate governance and regulatory compliance projects.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Senior Legal Counsel, on a 12-Month Fixed-Term basis, covering parental leave.

As part of the legal team within the Risk & Governance division of La Trobe Financial your primary responsibility will be to provide legal services across the whole of the business.

As Senior Legal Counsel, you will work as part of a dynamic Legal team, providing legal advice to the business across a wide variety of issues, including lending, funding, contracts and fund marketing. In your role, you will have the opportunity to engage with directors, executives and employees across the entire organisation, providing commercial legal advice on projects, operations and regulatory matters.

Key Responsibilities

• Providing commercial legal advice to the business (including in relation to lending, and funds management);
• Assisting business executives to implement digital, regulatory or funds management projects and advising on key legal issues;
• Briefing top tier law firms to advise on complex legal issues and advising the business on the same;
• Reviewing / preparing transactional documents (confidentiality agreements, service and supplier agreements etc.);
• Legal support for funding transactions (RMBS transactions and institutional warehouses, etc.);
• Reviewing and advising on marketing, advertising and disclosure documents;
• Assisting with corporate governance / company secretary functions;
• Assisting with risk and regulatory compliance projects; and
• Depending on the candidate’s experience, investigating and managing complex customer complaints and disputes.

About You

• Min. 5+ years PAE
• Mid-tier or top tier law firm experienced preferred
• LLB
• Current practicing certificate
• Excellent negotiation and decision-making skills
• Flexibility, adaptability and the ability to work confidently with people at all levels within the business
• Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
• Ability to manage competing priorities and short deadlines
• Strong commercial outlook and “team player” attitude
• Ability to work well in a team, but also autonomously and self-manage
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think outside the box
