Job summary

Genomic Diagnostics, part of Healius, invites a senior scientist to lead the inherited disease team at Heidelberg. Drive clinical genomics, validate workflows, and uphold high standards in reporting and turnaround times.

You will collaborate with pathologists and clinicians, applying your expertise to transform testing capabilities and support a growing service during a period of transformation and innovation.

Qualifications

• MD/PhD-level scientist with clinical genomics expertise.
• Experience interpreting complex NGS data and producing robust reports.
• Track record in high-complexity testing and leadership within a clinical lab.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and guide a team of scientists, technicians and pathology assistants in the inherited disease stream.
• Oversee and manage the whole exome/genome sequencing workflow, including library prep, sequencing, data analysis, curation and reporting.
• Perform variant analysis and clinical interpretation, and authorise high-quality inherited disease genomic reports.
• Liaise with Chief Scientist, Genetic Pathologist, Clinical Geneticist and Genetic Counsellor on triage, analysis and reporting.
• Ensure all testing/reporting meet NPAAC/NATA ISO 15189 and internal standards.
• Maintain high standards of lab practice, including QC/QAP and equipment oversight.
• Provide subject matter expertise on variants and complex case interpretation.
• Drive workflow optimisation, automation and continuous improvement for increasing volumes and service development.
